Drilled in my grass seed

BigAl

Gone But Not Forgotten
I borrowed a 12' drill to drill my grass seed in my new 10 acre pasture .

The owner said it was set to the right setting . I spent all day yesterday drilling in seed and still have over half of my seed left . I was suppose to drill in the seed at 18-20 pounds per acre. I think I averaged about 8-10 pounds per acre .
This morning we woke up to snow ,with more to come, so the planting season is over for us . Looks like I will have to reseed in the spring again . Dang !!! All I needed was one more day !

I'm old and thickheaded. I do not understand the application of using a 12' drill to plant grass seed. Sorry.

Its like a 12' wide disc with a drop seeder box on top . You set the rate of the seed to drop and the disc cut a narrow trench that the grass seed fall in . A chain is dragged behind the seeder and smooths out and covers the trenches . Its the best way to plant pasture grass to get even coverage .

Broadcast the rest of the seed in the spring and cuti-pack it in. Go across the drill paths with the culti and it will come in nice. I want to put lime on my pasture this week if the weather goes along with it.

Well,,,, my ranching nieghbor just told me to drill the grass seed through the snow ???????? . He says it will work fine .

I have too much other stuff to do around here , so in the morning while everything is frozen , I am putting on the tractor chains and going to open up the levers and spread the rest of the seed . I guess its worth a try .

This is going to be one cold morning !!!!
