Since Misha has a degenerative hip disorder (not Dysplasia) that makes it hard for her to use her rear end, we started thinking about some way to fanshion a harness that wraps around her for lifting.

At one of the 'outdoor' stores I saw a life-jacket for dogs. It wrapped the chest, and also had rear end straps. Gave me an idea. Talked to the lovely Mrs_Bob and we figured out how to make one. Then I saw this, it looks perfect for Misha!

Glad to hear that she is doing OK.

Her symptoms are very similar to our "Sugar" when she had back problems. That lifting harness was a boon. The glorified towel that you talk about ... not so much. I found it to be a real back killer, for me, not for her but it did work. Misha is a lot taller so it might be easier but toting an 80 pound dog around with it when she doesn't realize there is anything wrong with her back legs and while you are bent over at 45 degrees will put YOU in the doctor's surgery.

P.S. I agree about the cat.

She is the smallest Akita we've owned and she was on the doctors scale this week at a shade over 85 pounts :ermm:

Have you seen the two wheeled dogy "walker" that attaches to the rear pelvic part of the harness? It lets the dong walk, when by themselves they cann't.

Yes, and if it comes to that then we will be buying one of those. Typically I think those are more common for younger dogs. In the case of Misha she is an elderly dog. The wheelchair thing would certainly work, but at this point we are actually hoping that she simply dies of old age before the disease totally devistates her rear legs.

Here is just 1 example of the wheelie-harness => [ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003VL5BZ4/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1PTUWX4RD4IYT"]Amazon.com : Dog Wheelchair, Large (60-100 lbs) : Pet Health Care Supplies : Pet Supplies[/ame]
