Do you lose tools ?

BigAl

Gone But Not Forgotten
Son of a gun !

I guess I must be getting senile .

I have just spent the last 2 hours looking for my stupid paint roller . I can find the tarps . roller pads, pole extension , brushes and the paint , but no roller . The sad part is I have two of them ???
Is it just me or does this happen to other people too? I have done so much around here I can't remember the last place I used it .
It may be time to sit back and have a drink !

Big Al:: I Say have a Drink...And don't forget that most tools can grow legs...and walkoff for some reason..:whistling:

I used to lose more than I do now. Of course that may be why I have 2 or more of a lot of things. The secret for me is to always take time to put them back where they are supposed to be when done. I have no 1/2 in. size sockets in my tool box in my shop at the moment. This out of at least 4 sets in 3/8 drive that I have out there. I have another brand new complete set I won a few years back down in the basement. I know at least one is down in the bird toy area but have not found the others.

Not sure it has anything to do with age, hell i must have 20 different Phillips screwdrivers, but when i go to get one:doh: the drawer is empty,:glare: sometimes i spend an entire day just picking up and organizing tools, its just when you get busy things get out of place:smile:that is unless you neighbor borrows stuff:whistling:

I have many tools from when I was a child. I rarely lose them, until of course I had teenagers. I have a craftsman 1/2" drive socket nearly complete except for the ones I have busted over the years.

When i cleanup after painting, I tend to hang the roller frames on a water pipe above the basement utility sink to dry before putting back with the other painting equipment. I think there are like 6 of them up there right now, because I forget they are there and end up buying new ones on the way to the job. No, you're not alone when it comes to missing tools.

I lost more hand tools when my 3 sons where boys but still do from time to time when they visit. I have a rather large assortment of Snap On and Craftsman tools for cars which seem to just grow legs and walk away. I have lost every thing at least 3 times over the years. I guess they think Dad is getting old and won't notice. :whistling:

I know I do!!! Like most guys I also have about 20 different screwdrivers but can never find a frigin one. In my defense though, I had all my tools packed up in boxes to move out west last summer. The garage was full of boxes floor to ceiling filled with everything from the house. After the separation, I was left with the task of going through each box and sorting through what I was keeping and what was landing in the back lane. My tools never did get placed properly. Half of them are still in boxes scattered here and there. That is this summer's task. Get the garage organized, build some benches, install some new lighting, get some heat in there. I have a general idea where all the tools are but looking for a specific set of pliers or other tool usually results in a couple hours of choice words.

My problem is I normally have about 10 different projects on the go at once out in the garage so for every hour of working results in two hours of picking up tools.

I do NOT lose my tools.

On the other hand my wife/daughter take my tools from their assigned spots and they fail to replace them. I find them in the oddest places, usually several days AFTER they are needed.

Last time I changed the oil on the F150, I grabbed the case of oil and the filter, then the 5 gallon bucket of tools dedicated to oil changes and brakes on the truck. Knowing that I had two different sizes of "large plastic oil filter sockets", I test fit the socket to the filter to make sure I had the right one. Wrong. I had the other one. I spent the next 40 minutes cussing and tearing apart the workshop looking for that damn socket. Finally I gave up and spent 10 minutes wrestling with the stupid band style oil filter wrench.

When I had the filter off the truck I noticed something....the replacement filter was too small! I had the right damn socket, but the wrong filter!

Glad to see I'm not the only one that gets sumtimers moments.:yum: I do the same thing. The other day I was outside working on the boat. I was making myself a mental note of things I needed to pick up at the hardware store. I got in the truck, started it, sat there in the driveway for 5 minutes with a blank stare on my face as I tried to figure out what the heck I was doing in the first place. I shut the truck off, got out, stood there staring at the boat for a few minutes but for the life of me couldn't remember what I was going to the hardware store for in the first place. I walked around the boat a couple times and finally remembered what I needed. So, I get back in the truck, make the trip over to the hardware store, go in and start browsing around. I come out with everything but the thing I went there for in the first place.

I repeated this process 3 times that day before finally remembering what I needed when I got to the store.:yum:

The good news though is that I did finally get most of everything I was going to get for the boat in the first place.

Al are you really having trouble finding what you want or is this just a mental block to avoid work???

i like your ways of making drinking time:yum::yum::yum:

+1 Big Al

I must have purchased 10 sets of screwdriver sets over the last 20 years!
Where do they go?

They vanish somewhere.
