Had a full day visit planned to see the wonders of Vanderbilt University today. Part of that full day visit included several meetings with admistrators, etc. We left early. In fact we left after only being there about an hour.
I'm not saying that its not a great school. Its ranked in the top 20 universities so clearly its an amazing school. But it just didn't feel right. Nothing clicked. The campus is in Nashville, TN not too far from downtown. Unlike many schools with large medical schools, the medical school and hospital are not separated from the undergraduate campus, in fact it almost dominates the undergrad campus. There are some nice older parts of campus, but overall it seems (or felt) like an inpersonal city campus.
I'm sure the people who attend the school love it. It just was not the right fit for Melen and I didn't like it either.
So we made it home tonight about 5 hours before we planned to get home. In fact we were unsure we'd even make it home today. But we were here at dinner time. I mean no disprespect toward the school, but I'm really glad that Melen didnt like it because I didn't like it.
We did drive through BUTLER University in Indianapolis on the way home. That school is ranked #1 in the midwest as a "regional university" but regional universities are ranked lower than national schools. Melen was surprised by Butler. I doubt she will choose Butler but the visit opened her eyes to small quality schools.
