Ok.

What is the preffered brand of deck protection sealent? I am not staining it I am only going to use something that is clear.

We use Sherwin Williams oil based stain in a color called "natural" which just makes the redwood stand out. Over the years on wood decks I have found unless you use an oil base paint/stain you are just wasting your time. We have had this deck for about 6 years and we get many compliments and people questioning what we use because it does look so nice and natural. The stain really enhances the natural redwood coloring and should work with all wood to bring out its colors.

Many people use products such as Thompson Water seal but it will also flake and peel over time much like a latex paint. It is mostly an outside cover of the wood and does not penetrate like an oil base product.
