Day one, HVAC install

Taking a couple days off.

Took longer than thought.

Replacing Lennox Pulse furnace with a 14 SEER variable speed heat pump, along with a set of gas logs for the fireplace (couldn't justify spending the money for a variable speed two stage gas furnace for back up heat in North Carolina).

House is on a slope, took longer to build a foundation for the outdoor unit to do it right this time.

Putting in a whole house dehumidfier tomorrow which should prove interesting.

Also have to run to a buddies shop to pick up a 4' drill bit for the fireplace (longer length than I thought) along with a pipe threader.

Two condensing units are removed. The one, the three ton A/C (being replaced) and the other which was from the third floor that I did two years ago but was too lazy to remove at the time (the replacement unit for the third floor was moved to the other side of the house to reduce the linset run).

Look like you have lots of help .............

Yeah, the yellow lab puppie (only 14 weeks old, he's going to be a big one) is my buddy's puppy. I only hope he's still my buddy tomorrow when we have some cutting and threading to do:D

The jack in the pic with the two units is only inspecting for mice (and can those dogs dig when they find something!

Brazing the lineset at 10 pm.

Looking at the coil / plenum / and air filter done.

11:58 pm and have pulled 250 microns and calling it a night!

What a job. Is that a heineken bottle I see in that last set of pics? :D

Day 2, and day three won't be coming up until the weekend. Underestimated amount of time even with help.

That's not only a beer bottle in the pic, that's what I call a benifit for the help:D

Fireplace insert made things long. Picked the unit up a couple weeks ago, and found out when trying to put it in today that I had instructions for another unit. Top it off, missing a part I didn't even know about because it wasn't in my instructions (the part I needed that I didn't know about until I called the manufacturers tech line).

First pic is of the bit needed to get the gas pipe through the brick for the fireplace (LP insert for back up heat).

Second pic is of the 1st floor system (in basement) almost done. Still need to run duct work for the whole house dehumidifier (located to the right of the air handler).

Third is of the Honeywell IAQ interface unit on the air handler.

Last is of the basement equipment that will be replaced next year. Going to replace the direct vent water heater with a Rinnai tankless, and the gas-A/C system will be replaced with yet another variable speed heat pump (basement below grade).

Long day.

Day three, long story considering the job is being finished on the following Monday, but for the overall price of installation, no way can I complain:smile:

Insert fireplace done.

Complete first floor system done. I would of liked to of run all hard pipe for the whole house dehumidifier, however, you deal the hand that was given to you.

Glad this is over!

So far, the data being collected is pretty impressive.

Last year during the summer, I had to keep the first floor T-stat set no higher than 74 during the day to be comfortable with the outdoor temp being over 90.

Last couple of days, over 92F no problem (pushing 97F), and the T-stat is kept at 77F during the day and it feels very comfortable.

The dark blue line is outdoor temp. The lows on that line represent data collected at night.

Check out the indoor humidity level (light blue line). Starting to level out in the low 40's.

Keep in mind, this is the average for two floors, the second floor having it's own system/ductwork.

Again, pretty impressive.

Points delivered! Great thread DZ.

I appreciate the "rep points", but seriously, I don't want them.

I'm not trying to be rude, but why even get "rep points"?

People agree with you or like what you say, great. People don't like what you say or disagree with you, so what?

Edit, come to think of it, I'd probably take pride if I could get to zero on rep points with the amount of posts I have:D

That said, unlike the graph that I made up, here is where the actual data is coming from to convert. Real pain in the butt, however, some of the HVAC guys may find it interesting. Wait...trying to convert it...

And no, some of the smart cookies will say the system is oversized. I'm pushing some huge glass area on the first floor along with a skylight. Wrightsoft was the program for load calc.

So far I'm sold on the dehumidifier. Next month I'll disconnect it (dehumidifier) and let the IAQ t-stat take over with the variable speed for the first floor. Needless to say, I'll decrease the CFM's with the dip switches, and see what the system does without the dehumidifier. I'll be real curious as to the effect this will have with the basement and second floor, each floor having it's own system.

Data is not seperated by floors on 6/10 @ 10 pm (if you notice). Need to correct that.
