Cuban Bolivar cigars . . . mmmmm

Not sure what more I can say. I can't legally smoke it. I can't legally say I smoked it. I can't legally even hold it. I can't even legally say it burned evenly all the way down to where I burnt my fingers enjoying the very last little bits of its flavor.

I will say, that if I ever had the legal ability to rate Cuban cigars that I would rate the Bolivar brand as the best of the best . . . that is if I could ever smoke one. :whistling:

I never admitted that I did. :hammer:

But I do have some friends who may have some connections who might be able to do so and its possible they may stop by from time to time.

Actually, why aren't you supplying them to everyone here on the Forums? Panama doesn't have a Cuban embargo . . . does it :flowers:

You can get them in Canada pretty easily. I might have known someone who might have brought them down for their American friends. Maybe - probably just a rumor though.

I won't be returning to Panama until Late January.

I did not want to say it and worry anyone ,but the Doc says I may not make it to 103 like I planned . Just trying to be prepared before that day comes .

Actually I do not know all the names of the better cigars , but I do know what I like . "Cuban made Cigars" are a real treat for me in my later years ,since I have never been a fan .

A good friend visiting me in Panama , picked up a selection of different finer cigars in Panama City and brought them to the island for our evening enjoyment . He was like my teacher and showed me what to expectout of a fine cigar . By the time he left, I had a new passion , and it was for a Cohiba Cigar . Out of all the different ones we tried this was my favorite .
There will come a day very soon that I will visit the factory in Cuba where they are made and I became a fan of this beautiful Counrty's greatest gift to the world .

Sorry for the crappy pix of some Havana Cuba Cohiba and Punch Cigars. I have no idea where these grainy pix came from, but I could bet a lot of money the Cubans were oh, so good. Maybe some day soon I'll have some pix of Cuban Monte Cristos as well........

Fred, I'm not saying I smoked one of those Cohibas Saturday afternoon.

Nor am I saying that I had a Partagas Serie D on Saturday morning.

What I will admit to is that we had a hog roast & cigar festival on Saturday and there were lots of very very very good cigars trading hands.

I would bet that the Havana Cohiba in the mix was very mild, smooth, and went very well with some Sonoma Pinot Noir. I bet it was smoked all the way down to where it couldn't be held anymore, and was great all the way there, unlike some of the better cigars I have purchased.

I've heard somebody I know may be sending a larger variety of pix of Cuban Cigars, with Monte Cristo being the strongly suggested pix to look at first.

have you ever looked at a pic of a Monte Cristo?

. . . have you ever looked at a pic of a Monte Cristo?
One of my wife's former students (he was a senior the first year she was a teacher) is now a guy that I smoke an occasional legal cigar. Yesterday we were sitting around with legal cigars and he mentioned he may have an extra photograph of a Cuban Montecristo that he may bring in to show me sometime this week. However, I have to admit, I've not seen a picture of one before so I'm looking forward to his next visit.

Like you, I love great photography........
Actually I was taking a photo of the table and some idiot pushed his cigar in front of the camera.

BTW, we were recently named the exclusive GOD OF FIRE retailer for the area, next closest lounge is Casa Montecristo in Chicago. The GOD OF FIRE cigars should arrive at the end of this week or early next. I've also been given the Fuente Fuente OPUS X line but those only ship 2 times each year, once in November and then once in May. With those you take what they give you and you don't complain.

When I worked in Equatorial Guinea they received financial aid from Cuba in the form of cigars. You could walk into the grocery store and the shelves were empty of any kind of food but Cohiba cigars were stacked from the floor to the ceiling. The locals had no use for them but you could buy them for $10/box American money. I used to come home with 10 boxes, hoping like hell that customs would never stop me. I fell in love with those cigars. It's been 20 years and I still remember them.

Since then I have tried the Cohibas sold in the US and made in the Dominican Republic and they are definitely not the same. To be honest, they are not very good. They are expensive only because they carry the name "Cohiba". The quality control is poor. In a 5-pack, you will get perhaps 2 that smoke well and are excellent, 1 that is a bit iffy and two that are rolled so tight that you could collapse a lung trying to draw on it. That has happened several times. All in all, they are a disappointment.

Bob, I've liked almost every Arturo Fuente that I've ever tried but I'm not familiar with the "Gods of Fire".

Looked at the picture of the Punch for the first time last night. It was a bit rough compared to the Cohiba, and a short picture too. But it actually got better toward the end.

I heard my kid got a box of Havana Belinda Corona Pictures coming my way......

I don't about this personally, but I have heard that there are sellers in Panama, for instance that will give you a handful of Panamanian bands if you buy a few Monte Cristos or Cohibas. The original bands will clear the mail if you put them in tan envelope. I've not had the pleasure of a Bolivar, but the next time a friend goes to Panama, I am going to see if they can buy a few Bolivar bands.

And some Belindas along with the right stuff to go with them...

There are some photos of Cuban Monticristo bands in my humidor right now. Just pictures. No ashes. Not sure when they will catch fire. Today I did smoke a perfectly legal Dominican made God Of Fire Robusto by "Carlito" and have to say that it compares with the very best of the Cuban photographs that I've seen. In fact I'd rate it as a prettier picture than most every Cuban that I've had the pleasure of viewing. The God Of Fire cigars really are that good.

So, it was finally warm enough Sunday to sit on the porch and take a look at that photo of the Belindas.

I'm just guessing mild and a very quick smoke. Maybe 10 minutes, maybe 15 max. But probably very nice and glad I have pix of almost a whole box.
