The Crazy Scot, #3
Guys and "ladies", My water system upnorth, needs a different type pressure switch. The electrical inspector wants a weathertight type switch. I was getting along with a normal indoor style switch, since I built basically a doghouse over it to keep it out of the weather. But now I want to give him want he wants so I can get my electric approved.

As it is, my pressure tank is underground at the well and pump. When I had the well drilled, there was no buildings on the property. I am concidering digging the whole thing out, dig a trench 48" deep, and install it in the crawl space, where it usually is found. At this point, I'm trying to conserve my time and labour

Soooo, the question is, where can I find a weathertight pressure switch. I looked on line, but got frustrated with it, [sometimes patience is not one of my virtues], and thought I'd ask the world class gurus of knowledge here instead.
Besides, I need to get my post counts going again.:yum::burp::tiphat:

John - The best thing to do is to go to your local well supply house or electrical parts house etc.; the guys at the counter will have exactly what you need without the hassle of hunting one down online or in one of the huge big-box warehouse stores. Some plumbing supply houses in my area that sell well tanks also sell the switches. If you have a Hughes Supply in your area, they will likely have one. Might be tough finding one open the Independence weekend though. Good luck.

Lots of cobwebs up there but I seem to remember using explosion proof switches made by Ashcroft?? I'm sure they would be rated weather resistant. They came not set. We had a test fixture to set them. The ones we used were single pole so make sure you get a double pole to break both sides of the 220 or the inspector still won't be happy.

The big box stores won't have them. You need an electrial supply house or a plumbing supply. Have you tried Grainger?

John,
I see tha SquareD's normal pump pressure switch also comes in a NEMA 3R when mounted vertically. You will have to get one from a SquareD Distributor. I think its a 9013-FSW(X) where X= the rating etc.

AH HAH!!!! That's it Jerry, 9013-FSW29. Exactly what I'm lookin for. I thought for awhile I'd have to get a 3R enclosure, and mount the regular switch in it. This will save some toil for sure. Along with some four letter expletives. Jan says thankyou, as well as myself.:thumb::burp::tiphat:

Jim and Cb, thanks for replying and trying to help. Looks like the good Inspector hit it right on the schnoz again.:thumb::burp::tiphat:

You might want to consider this option. If you burst a line, it will save your pump, and possibly keep from flooding your home....

Low Pressure Cut-Off (AUTO-START-OFF) Operates at Approximately 10 psig Below Cut-in and will turn off the pump FSG, FYG M4 $ 5.80

I also like this option, because it gives visual indication of when the pump is on. I learned that I had a pin hole leak in the well pipe because the pilot light stayed on. With a submersible pump, you can't hear them running.

Junk, good idea! And it doesn't look like the price will kill me either. Now I wonder if that lowpressure cutout is inside the 3R enclosure.:burp::tiphat:

It is built into the switch and you have to hold up a lever to get the pump started. The lever is a bypass that feeds electric to the box until the pressure switch kicks in. It is all self contained. I will try to post a picture later this evening.... Junk..

Here are the pictures.... turn your head sideways to view......

Thanks Junk. I don't recall seeing one like that before, I don't dabble in wells as a rule. I'm going out this morning and pick one up. Is that a 3R enclosure? I can see how the handle would act like a drip leg being on the bottom. Thanks again.:burp::burp::tiphat:

*Edit; Went back to the site Jerry posted, I see that is not a 3R. Ohotos gave me an idea of what the lever looks like though.
