I've been following this from the beginning.
Horrible! 😪

A Columbus Police officer shot Darnell Jones, who was wanted for the murder of Kei’Mani Latigue, after a confrontation where he allegedly pulled a gun on officers around 10:00 a.m. Tuesday morning, police said. He was hospitalized and is stable.

Authorities charged him with felonious assault - assault on a peace officer for the incident in Columbus and he’s expected to be in court for his arraignment in Franklin County on Wednesday.

“This is one of the most horrific case I’ve ever heard of,” FOP official Brian Steel said. “This is a 14-year-old who was murdered, raped, had her hands cut off and her throat almost cut off.”

Officials at the scene said police received an alert Monday to “be on the lookout” for Jones.

“It was on everybody’s mind,” Steel said. “This is what SWAT does.”

Police said no officers were injured in the shooting. It’s unclear whether Jones fired any shots from the gun investigators recovered from the scene.

Kei’Mani Latigue’s family reported her missing last week. Police charged the teen’s father with abduction on Sunday. The charging document said Jones was the last person with the teen before she went missing and claims he gave inconsistent statements about what he did with her and her location. Authorities in Toledo have been looking for him since.

After authorities discovered the girl’s body in an abandoned home on Miami Street on Monday, Jones was charged with murder and has been on the run.

Investigators have not yet detailed a motive in the case.

Her autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday to determine how she died.

Kei’Mani, a Spring Elementary School student, was just days away from her 14th birthday.
