Clutch problem?

Hi all. GLAD to find this forum. I own a 1963 THiokol Spryte, Model B, Serial #5 that I use to access back country ski terrain in central Nevada. I had to leave my machine on the moutain last week. I turned a corner, downshifted to begin a climb, and didn't go anywhere. Engine running fine after tweeking the fuel system so have power.

No noise, bang, thump, smoke, nothing. Just won't transfer power and move foward. ford straight six, stock transmission, etc.

Any thoughts/advice greatly appreciated. BG

1) The clutch material might have gotten so thin that it came off of the disc.
2) the center could have broken out of the disc.
3) one of the cushion springs broke and is stuck in the pressure plate holding the plate from creating friction with the clutch disc.

While in forward, did you pull on one or the other brake levers? In the slim chance you broke an axle... it wouldn't run anywhere until you tried to turn and lock the broken side's brake up, then the other track would spin...

Good thought. I tried all gears, which seemed to engage and did pull levers. It very lightly tries to engage, but NO umph. Man, I'm hoping it's nothing to do with the rear end. THat would be a new adventure.

every thing is a crap shoot trying to diagnose over the internet i would just about bet on a broke axle based on your discription of what happened but the clutch hub would be a more likely failure i have seen ford clutches do that several times in the past with no warning.could also be adrive shaft if you can see it and its not broken first start up the rig and try to put it in gear with out the cluth engauged if the shifter grindes the clutch is moste likely good if it drops in like the pedal is depressed than than the cllutch is moste likely bad if you determin the clutch is good put it in to gear watch the drive shaft both at the transmission and at the rear end if one u- joint spins and not the other bad slip yoke change the drive shaft if both joints turn than bad rear end or broke axle hope that helps

its a shame big Al's krusty is still in parts he could go put his money where his mouth is and tow it back to the road

I dont know if this is it, but I had a simular problem in a plow truck. Pushed int a bank, stopped, went to shift int reverse, and no gears at all. Turned out to be a piece on the bottom of the shift lever that moves the shifter fork in the tranny. Cane out of first into neutral, and then stopped shifting. Got a new shift lever from ford and it fixed it. Ford 300 six engine with a 4 speed transmissin with granny low. Dont know if you have the same one or not.
