Thanks for all the replys. I will register and post pics in the next few days. Approximately how much should i expect to pay per plate...is it correct there are 6 in each pack for a total of 24? And does the power selector need to be removed to replace the plates? I know the right side rear plates are breaking apart. The rest look good, but if i need to pull the power selector and the cost is not to high i might as well do them all.
$15-20 each for regular plates or $25-30 for the bi-metallic (24), yes remove the unit. What's very, very, very hard to find is new-old stock of the disks. One can only dream... anyway, replace them all at once. These units, once operating, are actually quite reliable counter to what SnOps tells you
but getting them working can be tricky. For this reason, it's really just best to get rid of your machine.
OK, ok, just kidding... but some people do change out and get away from the power divider. See the
www.snowtoaster.com site for an example...although they changed it out for different reasons. You should also look at the ring & pinion while you're in there... and if that's a bit shakey you may want to look at changing out the drive system...drop in an OC-12 (from the sprytes), or the next step up to an OC-15 (from the evolution of the power divider to this OC-15 unit in the 6-series). The OC-12 is fine for what you'd use it for unless you're doing moose hunting in really nasty harsh high friction terrain. IF you are planning to use it like that then I *would* change out from the power divider and go for an OC-15 differential...but for the cost of the OC-15 you may as well find a 601...which brings you back to getting a set of those disks into your 4T10!
If you want to trade out and do the upgrade then it's a bit of work but definitely doable... as in the snow toaster example when they went to a Bombi diff. If your rig has been running though it shoudln't be bad to install new disks... just if it's dead in the water with lots of unknowns.
