Cloud Peak Wilderness

mtntopper

Back On Track
Jan and I managed to get away last week for some outdoor relaxing time in the mountain. We packed our backpacks full and used the ATV to get to the Wilderness boundary camp where we could have an open fire for the cool evenings and early mornings. Five days of fly fishing and tent camping in the Florence Pass area of the Cloud Peak Wilderness Area in the Bighorn Mountains will revitalize your spirit. We had a great time even though the nighttime temps were about 35F last week. No internet, no TV, no phone and no time for any such conveniences made for a great time at 9000+ elevation in the Bighorn Mountains of WY. It has been a few years since we actually tent camped with a bare minimum to sustain us. We had a great time hiking, catching and releasing lots of Brook Trout. North Clear Creek is a fantastic fly fishing creek with mostly Brook Trout ranging from 6 inches to about 16 inches in size. Most are in the 8 to 12 inch range. The area has many lakes also full of Trout. We visited some lakes but only fished the creeks in the area this time. Lake fishing bores me. The streams with the many different obstacles require more ability and technique to catch fish while providing more action for fly fishing versus the lakes for me.

Little bit late, but I loved the time I was in Cloud Peak. Was ~1991. Did some back packing with my uncle from Worland. Beautiful country up there.

I missed this first time around but that doesn't matter because I still freekin' hate you!!!!

Because of "things" we missed our annual pilgrimage to Colorado this year and I really missed it. It's a soul clearing experience to get away and get back to what is important. Although, I will admit, that I've evolved beyond tent camping and much prefer the RV these days. OK, the truth be told, I got too old for tent camping and my old bones demand a certain amount of coddling.

Great pictures of beautiful scenery. I'm envious.:clap::clap::clap:
