Cheap gas

What a difference. The missus and I both had the day off today while the kiddies had school so we took a drive down to the border to pick up a few packages I had ordered from ebay.(shipping is cheaper if I have it shipped to the border and with the cheap gas prices you guys have, it makes the trip worth it.) Normally it costs me $100 to fill the Durango from empty up here. That's at $1.30 per liter. I almost fell on my a$$ when I filled up today at the yankee side of the border. .88 cents per liter. WOW:clap: You guys have cheap gas!!! I filled up for a whopping $59.00 from empty today. Sure makes the 40 minute drive worth it.

.79 cent is nearly Double the price we paid only 5 years ago when bush was President. Obama doubled our fuel prices.

It does seem strange that we are excited about $2.90 per gallon for gasoline. But it will be a short lived celebration.

Congress is already looking at the drop as an excuse to raise more taxes.

We have to pay for healthcare! And we will do it just as the Canucks do. with high taxes, and therefore high prices on fuel.

Otherwise our healthcare cannot be,,,,,,ahem..... free.

Always funny when Canucks talk about how great the cheap gas is - It's all the taxes on your gas that makes it so expensive. Those taxes pay for your "free" stuff like Healthcare and other Big Government amenities. If you love Canada you should proudly pay your taxes.

Just saying.

...and I do pay my share into the system. I realize that nothing is free. Everything in life comes with a price. As far as the healthcare thing goes, I know our system isn't perfect. Far from it. I'm glad though that its one less thing I have to worry about each month when it comes to paying the bills. This thread was not about the healthcare system. It was pointing out that you guys have cheap gas prices yet you all sit here bitching and complaining about it when you should be thanking your lucky stars on how good you have it. Yet another thread gone down the tubes of healthcare/obama bashing......

....and we wonder why the forum has been soo quiet lately:glare:

Kind of funny the way cheap gas zig-zags across the border.

30 years ago, I used to go to Canada for my gas as it was much cheaper than the USA. I only lived about 2 miles from a major border crossing and it was a 35 cent toll to cross the bridge so it was easy. At some stations in Canada, they would have a special of 1 gallon of gas for a pre-1964 nickel (due to the silver content). I had always collected those so I could fill up a 20 gallon tank for literally a dollar.

Where do I have to go to save 40 cents a gallon ?

$3.30 here. Down from $3.69 all summer....

One gas company's prices can vary 20 cents/gallon only 10 miles apart. 8000 gallons in a tanker = $1600 extra per truckload....

It's funny how things go. Back in the mid to late 90s our gas prices were about the same as american gas prices.I remember putting close to 10,000kms on my truck in two months going hunting. I could afford to do that back then because the gas prices were soo cheap.

We bitch about it because we see our nation following the same path to ruin. And we talk about it a lot becaue it is the number one issue here in the States. Countries all over the modern world have bragged about their "free" and "Universal " healthcare system. And yet virtualy evey one is either in financial trouble over it or their healthcarehas degraded.

Includiing Canada.

So yes, we are gonna link the cause to the effect.

Sorry to be stubborn about it but, Taxes are the reason your gas is high ALL THE TIME. It was cheaper years ago but, that was before your nationalized healthcare nanny state added so much social costs burden to the national treasury. I'm not gonna debate whether it is good or bad. It is what your nation decided to do.

I could be wrong but you pay double, 50% of which is taxes that don't change with the price of crude. Depending on which state you are in we pay from $0.49 to $0.80 per gallon in taxes.

We bitch because our gas goes up and down dramaticaly because of market forces. Those are manupulated by both the government policies and the Oil cartels. And everytime we find a new source of domestic energy, a pile of tree huggers says we can't use it.

And that includes the stuff from Canada.

We are generally close to the highest in the nation (highest is often Chicago, then outside the city is cheaper but still fairly pricy). Our current prices are $2.99/gallon in the outskirts areas, $3.85 for diesel.

Summer prices were $3.75 for gas, $3.85 for diesel.

It costs millions to make the first pill. 2 cents to make the second. Americans generally get stuck with the first pill cost.

Prices for Pharmacueticals in Canada are set by the government. It is unfair to compare them to USA prices.

Back to the OP.

Gasoline and Diesel Fuels are a neccesary consumable by all citizens. Many nations use that to trap(and i use the word on purpose) their citizens into paying a consumption tax.

It is identical to the Stamp act which forced the colonist to use only British paper and to pay a fee to the government to do so. The same with British TEA. It added no value of the product, and yet, it cost more.

That turned out well for England right? Yet today we allow the very same thing without bloodshed.

So please, be satisfied with that and put up with our bellyaching as we explain the facts of life.:whistling:

Bob I would give my left nut to have your high prices. i'm still in the us even an oil producing state, we pay 6.10 a gallon here. that is cheap for the bush in villages where Crowley doesn't have competition prices can go over 8 bucks a gallon.

The same across the border thing is in play between states. I travel often to Mt Airy, NC. About 8 miles from the Va border. Gas was 15 cents cheaper in VA than in Mt Airy.

Gas at Richmond Costco a couple af days ago - $2.81. Still a third more than when Barry took office.

Same here in MO vrs IL. Fuel is refined in Illinois but cheaper in Missouri. State and Local sales taxes make the difference. About $0.35 per gallon at the State line. But keep in mind some of that is hidden in the costs of delivery and retail outlet cost forrealestate taxes.

Keep in mind that taxes accumulate from eachstage of manufacture and distribution. Like conmpond interest in multiplies on itself. All those businesses are out there collect tax revenues for THE MAN. This before any profit income taxes.

Lee Iacocca was accosted by Republicans Congress, "Chrysler hasn't paid income taxes in years" they said. He then read a litany of taxes collected throughout the process of building a car. From the steel mills tha makethe metal tothe flour mills that make the biscuts at the morning diner for the workers. "If Chrysler goes down, you lose all of this revenue," he said. Shut them GOP elephants right up.

thaught I lost a post that found it

That is 25% more than a bottle of Lagavulin.

Now I am thirsty.

I got another compadre drinking the good stuff last week at Process Expo. One by one, I get them off of mixed drinks.

One of the cash gas stations in Benton Harbor was at 2.96 Sunday. The reason I say cash gas stations is becuse none of 'em have credit cards and they gotta pay before pumping. No loss to credit card fees nor theft at the pump. Theft by gun, well, that's another story.

Went down to the border last night again to pick up a few ebay purchases. Was a very cost effective trip. For my purchases, shipping costs to the border were only $20. If I were to get the items delivered here, it would have cost close to $80. While I was there I filled the durango. Cost me $117 last week to fill up here in the city. I filled up with the guage close to empty last night for $65. It's exactly 67km to the border from my house. Not bad saving a total of $100 for a short drive. Not to mention the fact that the stuff I bought on ebay would have cost me over $300 if I were to buy here in the stores and I only spent $75.
