Changing engine out in FN110 Nodwell...Help!

FN 110

New member
I'm on the verge of swapping the 453 Detroit diesel engine in my FN110 Nodwell for a fresh engine. What is the best way to do this? Go through from the front with a boom pole? The cab looks like it has four points for attachment to the frame. Will the cab tilt over either way? Any help is appreciated !

i wish i had an exact answer for you,but i would be willing to bet the engine was installed before the cab was put on from the factory.that said, many engines (in many different cab-over vehicles )can be pulled with the cab in place if you know what your doing. is the boom rest mounted on the front removable? some times removing the cab just makes it easier in the long run. if it were me.... i would pull the cab.

the nodwells i have seen need the cab remoed for engine changes as i remember they only have about 4 points of attachments and some simple wiring to remove the cab you are just going to need something stout to remove it. what are you replacing it with same motor or something lighter and quieter like a 6 b cummins

I was only inside a 110 once, that detroit was shoe horned in ! Cab removal sounds like the way to go . Very nice machine, post some pics of the surgery !

I pulled a 7.3L diesel out of a ford van by grabbing the front of the motor with a homade jig. I removed the accessories and bolted to the face of the engine. I then was able to lift and tilt and twist the motor out.

ASE Book was 14 hours.
I had it out in 8.

Back in is 6.

It Put a whole bunch of strain on my hoist but the ability to manuever the engine from the front mounting location was really convienient.

IF the cab comes off, consider making it a tilt cab with some large hinges at the front mounting points for the cab. This will make future rapairs and maintanance much easier...
