Ceiling tiles

The one thing I did get done with the misses gone was strip the wall paper from the kithen, scrub the remaining glue off the wall, then primed it. Ready to put a layer of paint on the walls, but one thing my wife wanted, and I agree with her on this as well, is new ceiling tiles.

Looking at 2'x4' drop ins, trying to find a drop in tile with a "little character" but with around fifty five of them to go in, nothing too special in the $100 and up each price bracket that I've seen (heck, came across some "stars tiles" that were $300 each).

Any suggestions on manufacturers?

How about painting the tiles in a soft near white color that would complement your room colors. Your metal strips would be white and colored tiles would make an attractive pattern.

Might be a good idea if we "somewhat" liked what was there, however, the ones in the kicthen must of been there since the house was built in 1988 and they are really starting to show their age. The style in place are like fiberglass, and have "cracks" as a design if you can call it that), we're just at a point where we both don't like the style at all, and with their age, some need to be replaced.

Next idea, If your crosspieces aren't to yellow with age switch to 2' by 2' panels by adding a crosspiece. This will make a big change in how a room looks. I would look at tiles with a 1/4" to 3/8" drop instead of one that sits flat on your supports.

Roadking,
I have something similar to the ones in the right hand picture in one room. They are very nice looking, from Armstrong. They have the Tegular edge, meaning it drops down in steps pictured here

They may not be a good choice for a kitchen though with airborne grease and what not.

Dang.... $100 and up per piece?

Armstrong does make a good tile and has several options.

I don't know if I'd switch to a 2x2' grid or small pattern. At 55 tiles, that may make the ceiling look "busy".
