Carry Alls

DAP

New member
So far, I've been lookin at the Howse and the KingKutter. They are both CHEAP, and boast an unremarkably low weight tolerance (weak).

I wanna put the carry all on the 3PH and probably leave it there both for storage concerns as well as it is probably the most reusable implement in general.

I am also going to mount a PTO driven 7500 generator on the carry all unless someone can point out to me how utterly stupid that would be.

I wish I wish I had a big Lincoln welder, some stock and the ability to make my own, but I have none of the above 3 going for me.

Any other carry alls out there I should be lookin at?

:pat:

I am not sure you will be able to find anything available commercially that will hold signigficant weight. Not sure that this will help you but I built one based on plans I have that will carry up to about 2000 lbs off the 3pt.

The legs and sides are 2" x 3" x 3/16" rectangle tubing. The bottom cross section is 2" x 6" x 1/8" rectangle tubing and the tabs that hold the lift pins and top link are 3" x 3/8" flat bar. This can be built in a couple of afternoons.

That's a nice one MR!!

Doug,

I don't see an issue with the generator.

In general, as long as you keep the load towards the tractor and not lift with the tips, the cheap ones "normally" work OK.

You might want to just get a set of pallet forks. I have a cheap KK carry all and it has carried a lot of weight - more than it should have. My neighbor has pallet forks and they work much better for the bigger tasks.

King Kutter makes a pallet mover that is rated to carry 2000 lbs and looks simmilar to Mad's pictures. Check their web site: http://www.kingkutter.com

I agree with PB. I looked at Carry Alls and ended up designing a 3pt Pallet Fork. In your case you could mount the generator on a pallet and you'd be able to move it around anywhere you'd like. The pallet forks have come in very handy and I've used them far more often than I ever imagined.

Here is a link to a thread that shows my Pallet Forks. My pallet forks are post number 9 in the thread so you will have to scroll down a bit.

Am I missing something?

I was thinking that "carry all" was just another name for "pallet forks". Am I wrong?

BTW, I was referring to pallet forks in my post.

Brian, a Carry All is a much lighter duty unit with fixed forks. They have a weight capacity under 1000# (although there are rare exceptions) and they are often made of simple angle iron. A carry all is often used as a frame for a sprayer or a modified spreader.

It's made in China. It's probably not as good as the KingKutter or Howse versions or as good as them. I doubt it's better.

My guess is that it would be good for light duty uses but not heavy lifting.

Thanks for the clarification Bob.
I have a carry-all.
Works fine for me as I don't lift more than 1000#.

I did notice however that the Hornier carry all is a bolt together item rather than a fixed welded piece.

I can't imagine lifting more than a 1000 lbs with it, so the carry all might be OK.

Bob, I noticed your nifty 3ph fork mod is on the back of your TC24. What is the lift capacity on that machine? The B7800, like your B2910 is somehwere between 1300 2 feet out from the pins ... Then I spose that attachment goes on the back of the Kubota too.

The TC24 is slightly lower capacity than the B2910, but the day I took those photos I was using it to move a 400# planter onto a semi-enclosed covered porch and wanted the smallest machine I could use to get it into place. Even as small as the TC is, I wish I would have had a little BX to use that day!

I have 41 mins left to go on a carry all from HDC ... Homier ... in your fair state. For 50 bucks and 30 shipping with 1000# capacity, this will do me just fine. Plus it breaks down as it is bolted together.

Homier does an enormous eBay volume it seems. You know this outfit?

I have a set of 3pt round bale forks w/ the 2000lb capacity. It was free.. but bent up pretty good.. I chained it to a tree.. and used the tractor w/ chains to pull it back into shape.

I've received the Homier bolt up version of a carry all. They refer to the item as a Carry All Fork ... I took the 'forks' to my Shopsmith and bored holes for attaching PT 2 x 6 boards at 3 feet lengths across the forks. I plan on making a temporary mount for a 7500 watt PTO driven generator and also using the carry all fork for moving stuff around the farm.

I haven't used it yet, so I can't tell you how it performs as far as ruggedness, but I will post that also, just for principles sake. It does fit nicely with Pat's Easy Change, but again, that's without any load. Again, they are rated for 1000 lbs. The B7800's 3ph is rated for 1300 lbs 24" from the pin. Maybe I could break it. ;)

If anyone would like to see some pics posted, let me know - but this is right up there with watching paint dry or listening to C*****doc's posts about JD pricing models in Texas.

Here are some photos. We see a lot of people doing something like this with their machines. There's a good reason for it. More useful than a mirror in a Poker tournament.

I'm gonna bolt down a 7300 watt PTO generator to it when I need it. I'd like to put some lateral stabilizing braces on it, but that will restrict what I can put on it, so this is as far as it goes. I'll let you know how close to the 1/2 ton rating it carries.

Here's some photos of the outcome.

Doug,

Interesting setup. A bit different then what I was expecting.
I assume you're not going to use for pallets.

I have a 2x4 that mounts to the tips of the forks with carriage bolts like your setup. On mine, I put wing nuts on the bottom. When the board is removed, I can use for pallets. I have a series of pallets that are the exact size to slide on then put my retaining board on the end to secure. On these pallets, I have tool boxes (for logging equipment/tools) and other things.

Brian

Bri ... that sounds quite useful also. My set up is not a set of forks, but a carry all. If I remove the boards, then I could also lift pallets, but I have no need for that. The 'forks' are merely angle iron steel ....

I guess I'm making the distinction between a pallet fork and a Carry All. This was rated at 1000 lbs and set me back 48 dollars. I could not beat that. If I ever actually need forks, I could A; take off the boards (PIA) or B; get a set of bucket bolt ons ...

This will serve many purposes me thinks.

You're good to go Doug.

I just squeeze the heck out of my $50 and do what I can with it. I actually have something called "The Clampette". I took a 4' bench and strapped it to a pallet so I could take passengers with me.

Sorry about the spelling of Clampette but think of the Beverly Hillbillys and the chair grandma sat on in the back of their car.
