Indiana is illegal. Michigan can sell. Went to Michigan City Indiana today.
From New Buffalo to the In/Mi border, about 3 miles on route 12, there are 14 in operation or about to be in operation stores. On US94, at the exit 1 in Michigan, the New Buffalo exit, there are 6 more in operation, one filling an old large hotel, and at least 6 more being built.
This is nuts. 26 marijuana places.
At 11am, just about all the parking lots were full.
Here in my little town, the city has not allowed any. Next town over, there are 5 shops within 2 city blocks.
What a mess they are creating.

I know of folks in Marietta area who make the 4+ hour trip to Michigan semi regularly. I figure the state of Michigan will get rich off all the taxes from the sale of the stuff. I smoked it when I was younger. And thought it would be great to have it legalized. Now I've seen things / people that helped me see, legalization is not in the best interest of the country.

I grew up deadset against it and swore I'd never touch it. After my accident in 2015 I was on a few different so called prescription pain meds which did absolutely nothing for pain but left me a zoned out zombie all day. No thanks. I had accepted the fact that I'd be stuck using a mobility scooter as I couldn't walk more than 150ft without collapsing in pain. My friends at camp suggested that I try it. Immediate pain relief. I got a prescription for it as at that time it was just legalized across the country up here for medical use. It's now legal across the country for both medical and recreational. There's a pot shop on every second block in the city it seems. I never thought that I would see the day of legalized Marijuana delivery service right to my door 15k from the city. Go online. Place an order and within 2hrs It's at my door. I use that, naproxen and a nerve pill daily for pain management.

Where it presents a problem now is traveling to the states. We used to spend about 3-4 weeks a summer traveling with our rv and kids down in the states. Now, despite it being legal for both medical and recreational here and legalized for medical in Minnesota, I can't bring anything with me for pain relief for a simple trip to Duluth Minnesota 4 hrs south for the weekend as it's still federally illegal at the border. We tried a couple summers ago going down for an outdoor concert weekend event. I was reduced to using my mobility scooter again for the first time in 4 years and was in severe pain unable to stand for the weekend. That's why we have chosen to stay in Canada this summer and travel to the west coast with our fifth wheel camper as I physically cannot handle traveling in the states anymore.

So I went from being 100% against it growing up to seeing the medical benefits of it and using it daily to control pain.

I was awake in pain every 2 hrs last night due to burning back pain. Finally I said f it at 5am and came out to the living room, went out and had a couple puffs of my Marijuana vape pen outside on the deck, came back in and felt immediate pain relief as the muscles and nerves in my back relaxed. I definitely see the medical benefits from it just from pain management alone. Come to think of it, I have rarely been sick at all as far as the cold or flu since using it for part of my daily pain management routine.

I see that there can be a very positive MEDICAL benefit to it.

I worry about the RECREATIONAL use of it. Honestly just don't think we have enough information about the side effects, especially considering how much more potent the modern strains of marijuana are compared to the 'weed' that was available in the 60's, 70's and even 80's. There have been great strides taken in the cultivation and formulation of stronger strains.

I think we may look back from the future and live to regret the wholesale decriminalization. That said, I'm not really opposed to it (never used it) but I wonder the 'dose' should be more controlled, in the same way that the "proof" of alcohol is posted on bottles and and the nicotine levels are regulated on tobacco. Just thinking out loud.

That town next to mine that now has 5 shops. Last year there were 2 plus one for about 3 months. The city rcvd sit 350,000 the first year from marijuana tax revenue, this year they are going to get aboutt the same. Increasing stores didn't seem to increase revenue.
I have a feeling there will be quite a few really nice new buildings for fake in the near future.
As for use, yes, for true medical needs. Please do so.
But not for casual use. People that regularly smoke definately lose cognitive ability. I believe iq drops about 5 points.
THC in marijuana was in the 1-4% area back in the 70s. Now with careful growing, it's more like 15%.

I would whole heartedly agree that medical Marijuana is a huge plus and should be available in all states.

As Fred said it is much stronger now than it was back in my day. And it effects different people differently. As does alcohol. Many go overboard and F up their lives and their families. Like some do with gambling. So, I guess in the big scheme of things people have to be adults and make adult decisions. We can't rely on the government to save those who cannot control themselves. When I used it it was illegal everywhere with big time jail sentences if caught. That didn't stop us. It was readily available and not hard to find. Looking from that perspective legal is better than illegal.
