Buying at 01 BR 275- Inspection Questions

Hello All

My snowmobile club is looking to buy a BR 275 with a tiller this Sunday. Any suggestions on what to look over, and how, pictures would also be appreciated? We won’t have many tools or a shop to take it to before we make an offer on it. And we don’t have any manmade snow to try it out on.

Here is a few ideas that I came up with-
Like how much old fuel is in the tank.
We can see there are any dates when the batt were put in.
Cracks on the frame and welding
I am not sure that we can see if a bearing has play but if one is split open
Can a tracks be adjusted out too far/or no further?
Wear strips
Lights/gauges/beacon/wipers
Track wheels splitting
How can we test if the windshield glass heats up correctly?

What else can you guys come up with?? Just trying to be prepared.

Thanks, Ross

Check to oil and filter for dates of service, and not just the motor either as this is a hydo unit I think(?) Good maintanence is usually started with recording on the filter when service was done. If you have the time and oil sample test of the oils will tell you alot about what's going on inside. Caterpillar dealers can test your oils for a small fee. They can also supply you with a sampling kit with a pump and bottles...

Those items that are the highest price to replace you want to concentrate on. You don't want to spend big bucks for repairs any time soon...

Check the windshield on a frosty morning....

Good luck, Kirk

Great idea. I don't know if we can get a test in before we buy it, but we won't have any surprises during the winter though if we did it.
