brakes on 542 Tucker

I think (disclaimer) that Tucker used a Kelsey-Hayes 4 piston centric caliper from a 1968 Thunderbird. (They later switched to one from a GM pickup.)

They are hard to find and priced accordingly. I know that Ford used some different calipers in the Thunderbird and some auto parts stores will say they can get them but those are most likely single piston calipers. The four piston calipers are hard to find.

In my notes I have a phone number of a place that had them. The number is (800) 452-0775. I also have the part number as 141.61001. I suggest you call Jeff at Tucker and verify this before ordering anything.

Good Luck!

Ford used the 4 piston Kelsey Hayes on all full size disc cars until 1967. 68 and up should be single pistons. However being Ford, use up what you have has always been their moto. Some early 68 were very possibly 4 pistons, but the 4 piston were all the same.

I forgot to say that it was a 1974 would Tucker have used the Ford parts that long And thanks guys for the help Jeff

My 1973 Corvette uses 4 piston calipers. I don't know if they would fit on your Tucker, but the price and availability is OK.

My 83 542A has the single piston unit from a 1978 Chev 1/2 ton 4X4. I just purchased new last year. Works very well and is not expensive. With a welder and some creativity you could make the change. An option to the hard to find and expensive 4 piston unit. Best regards.
