Just in case anyone is looking, not mine, but I did talk to the seller and he seems to be knowledgeable about the machine:

And a Raidtrac:

Seems like I recall this one being for sale last year....

What do you all think on the BR100, worthwhile price considering options & condition?

I'm looking at it as a possible next project...

Nixon before you jump on the bombi I would suggest you look around and try one out see how you like it. I have never used one with the wide tracks but the narrow track models kind of suck in deep snow. I like the br100 plus much more with its longer track and larger motor. ride quality sucks on both. and cargo space is kind of limited I found both machines to be tough for a guy of my size to get in and out of that is the main reason I suggest you try some stick time on one so you can determine if you will be comfortable in it. I also think for up here the heater is lacking it may work better where you are at. a larger heater box could fix the heat problem.

Thats why I figured I would get some opinions from you all...

I'm debating... build a unit off the weasel differential, or just buy a "not so new" Imp 1404... very close price - both around $9k...

Instead of worrying about forking up almost $20k for a 1450, I could repower the 1404 with another type of drivetrain setup... to make it worthwhile, put in all likeable creature-comfort features...

the bombi is a stout vehicle with a ride and comfort quality about like a jeep cj-5. they are tough little critters and weigh in about the same as a snow trac just a little shorter and a bit more narrow.

I presume you have ridden in an Imp? How would you compare the two? Just in your opinion...

I liked the imp better. Been in both. used both.

Have you looked at/for a "super imp" ? With the job you did with a regular imp a super job on a super imp would really shine. Not quite a spryte, but a little bigger than the traditional imp.

I have been looking at the 1450s, only I've not found anything cheaper that $15k plus shipping.

There is one on snotrans' site, but its $22k, although in pretty good shape as I'm being told.

If only 1404 had a stronger axle, I would just buy that and completely rebuild it with a new cab, wider tracks & engine upgrade...

Throw a HEMI in there... LOL

Nikson,

Dale Peterson on the forums here has a 1404 for sale. It has a winch, but the suspension boggies and rear end are removed. I have spoken with him briefly and he says he has all the components to put it back together. I think he wanted around 4500 for it but you might contact him. I have several good engine components if you need them. He is only about 5 hrs from me if you need some help getting shipping arranged I may be of some assistance. Here is one pic I will see if I can find more.

we have one imp that showed up in town this year I have not got to take it for a ride yet. to me they also look cramped and with the ramped track and front mounted drivers compartment, I imagine a lot of pitch and roll the only thing is watching Dennis drive his around they don't seem to need as much steering correction as the bombi does to drive straight.

Nik, When the cat bug bit me I picked up a distressed bombi with a diesel transplant from a memeber here.
Likes:
diesel
Auto trans
quick, powerful.Pulled harder than you would think it could. would spin the tracks on command.
Great heat Had two heat boxes.
easy to work on.
parts cheap
fit on a car trailer.
Dislikes:
ride (brutal)
no room for stuff inside (dog gun jacket)
Outside stuff storage was limited to items that could get wet.(snow dust)
It really was one person I did put three in it but anything more than a few miles and the fun was over.
asymetrical winter tracks kind of eat sprockets (must flip seasonaly)

My second cat was a 1404 imp.
Likes
driver codriver seating arrangment (mine is a full cab)
heat
gears and gear combinations
Standard wheels and tire sizes
wipers
hydraulics
visibility
ride is almost good.
easy in easy out.
dislikes
exhaust route
fuel tank
1" too wide

I am settling into this hobby, and close to making up my mind what I want to grow old with. the imp is in the running.

I picked up a 1450 project and that is getting a diesel and auto trans. if this is as nimble as the 1404 in the woods It may take its place for the small access duties that require work. pushing track setting and keeping people warm

hope this helps.

Nik, When...

we have one imp ...

Nikson,...

Thanks to all of you for sharing your opinion...

On the upfront seating and roll of the 1404 I can only agree, same feeling I had on the previous 1402 I did...

As far as overall likeability of the cats, I also tent to lien toward the Imp/SuperImp selection, being that they seem to be in that perfect mid-size range, and their capabilities...

So... I guess will be looking for a reasonable project in 1404/1450 within reasonable price...

Anthony... something that far - would be too cost inefficient for me to bring here, that would probably be at least $2000 for shipping - killing the purchase price by a LOT... Plus I would prefer to have something that together, hate to track down missing parts...

Along all of those lines... will be looking...

Keep an eye out, anyone seeing anything good - feel free to share with me, much obliged...:hammer::hammer::hammer:
