bombi problems

I went out for an afternoon run with my bombi. i was going good and all of a sudden my ignition failed. don't you just hate that? 1/2 way up a mountain 7 miles from your truck. Getting dark.
I got a ride out on a snowmobile.
Everything points to an ignition module . I converted it to electronic last year.
The snow trac is going to the rescue to fix or tow it out in the morning. i am going to pick up a module in the morning. I hope a pinto one works. It has that 4cyl industral ford in it.
No spark at the coil wire.
Maybe I'll get a photo of it being towed.

i'll do that. It has the 1980 orginal wires in it and could have a break. It was getting dark and i looked the wires over kind of fast.
I had lots of snow kicking up and the engine was all wet when I opened the hood.

If it was real wet it could be drawing down the voltage through cracked insulation on the wires. If you go back and it fires right up I would look for that and a weak or cracked coil.

I had a Bombi that all of a sudden acted like a dead battery and would not start all the time. I sold the bombi to Boggie and he found one of the ignition wires was not the proper size and caused the problem, only in Bombis!! There was a post last winter all about it!! Would be worth checking out when you get it back. Sound similar to your problem.

am aware of the light starter wire on the bombi. I never had a cranking problem. I thing I may have to fix the problem with snow dust entering to engine compartment after returning home. Everything dryed out good when I was troubleshooting it . At least it looked that way. The eletronic pickup in the distributer cab looked all clean and dry. I have no output from the coil wire so I just need to follow in that direction. The Battery is new and strong. I have an extra coil I carry in the snow trac that I am bringing in with me. I hope all 12v coils are the same.
Thanks for all the suggestions

Jim all coils are not the same first using a test light check for constant 12 volts on the positive side if good move to the negitive side you should have a flash when canking if the negitve flashes and you have no spark replace the coil if you have a constant light replace the module the coil must be for electronic ignition and if it restarts when cold suspect a coil

Only advice I have is to source a points distributor and take that along.
( generally carry a points distributor and electric fuel pump as a emergency get home kit)
I would think that a (Skid steer, pinto, ranger PU,) distributor should be available an cheap. those ford industrial engines were in alot of equipment.

One wire to make spark, Even without a condensor you can get a long way with just a screw driver and a nail file.

a new coil got me good spark . I am not sure why the old went bad. It didn't have many hours on it. i had it bolted to the engine maybe the vibrations cause it to short??

if you did an electronic conversion you may still need a resitor in line to keep the coil from over heating i had the same problem with my jeep so i sourced a coil with an internak resistor and have had no problems since

The kit I put in gave you an option of having one or not. I chose not to have it. you can see it beside the bad coil that it being replaced. I'll put it back on.
