Bombi Needs a new clutch

Does anyone know where I can find a new clutch for my bombi with a 1.6l

Bombi clutches are getting harder to find none at the Factory they say not available anymore so we have having them relined any parts store should be able to send them out and have it done.

Does that include the pressure plate as well? I found a similar clutch from a 1983 ford escort same size same spline it should be here today it was $132 have you ever gone this route? I have the bombi apart engine out tranny out I rebuilt the engine sandblasted and painted the engine compartment is there anything you would recommend that I do at this point before I start to reassemble?

no, that is just the plate, you can have the pressure plate resurfaced.

I really like the 2.3 and the automatic C-3 that the BR-100 pluses have
so much nicer to drive. JMO

have any pictures of your handy work ? sounds like you are doing it up good.

Thanks

Boggie,

A nice conversion on the cab, very innovatiove! Your work?

Where does one sit to steer it? Yes, I know in the cab but normally the pilot sits in the middle, I see only a left and right seat?

Ho my god ! So nice... I'm full motivation.

Like you said radar, missing small seat.

I see, look Radar, may be the 2 arms close of the left door ( hydraulic )

Well, This is not my work, just pictures from a club....... they did a nice job though. the steering is through the ram steer on the drag so you steer with one lever between the seats. if you did not have the drag there is another way you could put on any brake steer and steer with a electronic joystick we have done many conversions

Here is a nice Bombi upgrade with a 2.3 Bronco engine and tranny cab redone

Here is a picture of the ram-steer portion it is used with a drag then you do not use your steering bands to turn you use the weight of the drag and the cylinders in between. the plus side is you lose no HP because of steering brake drag.

Hey Boogie I'm curious on how much does your electronic joystick steering conversion cost for say an older Muskeg? I seen your post on a different thread and it looks awesome, would I save a little if I made my own hoses?

we just did one on a 72 Muskeg this week, but we did all of the install and rebuilt the Differential at the same time, it depends on price do you have a hydraulic pump on yours that runs all the time ? the one we just built this week was stand alone with electric/hydraulic

I could put a pump on it it's in the works anyway but the electric/hydraulic seems interesting

Thanks

Well I finally stopped looking for a new clutch and found a guy that rebuilds them, he charged me $300 and rebuilt the clutch, pressure plate and a new bearing I had it back in less than 24hrs. My next question is there is a small hydraulic pump belt driven off the drive shaft, does anyone know what this is for?

That pumps the differential fluid through a filter and back to a cooler behind the radiator. I assume the system serves the purpose of keeping the fluid clean and cool, and I have never had any problems with it. Beware though - Bombis can collect water in the differential and the pump will distribute it in the filter and cooler. When I bought my Bombi it hadn't been run in several years - the bottom of the filter was rusted out (the air leak will prevent the pump from working) and the cooler had split open from water freezing in it. My local radiator shop patched the cooler up and with a new filter (Napa 1551MP) it runs fine.

The pump simply circulates the diff oil to the cooler on the rad to keep the diff cool.

Don

PS I put a Toyota 20R in my Bombi and now it has lots of power and a 5 speed.
