bombi misses at high speed

Thought I would check with you guys first before I start buying parts.
My bombi seems fine you can rev it up with no problems and it sounds great. But when you have a load or hit some deeper snow that puts a load on it looses power bad. It sounds like a miss . It only happens under load and at higher speed.
I removed the air filter and it didn't make any difference. Points have been removed and an ignitor 2 electronic ignition put in it. But It did the same with the stock points. When I had the points off I noticed some play in the distributor shaft .It was a very slight horizontal type movement only when I pushed on it. I wasn't sure if it was normal or not.
what I have is a 79 bombi with ford 4 cyl. 1600 engine with vacumn advance distributor.
any suggestions?

Jim, you may want to check some Bombis have rev limiters electronic ones located under the seat pan on the side of the tub. this will cause what you are describing. some have chips and some are none resetable. they were put in so they were not over reved

don't over look secodary ignition missfire a bad distributor cap plug wire or spark plug can cause the same problem likely plug or wire.

It has the govenor below the carb. I'll give new wires and plugs a try.
Thanks

I had something similar the other day - missed in 4th. Loose dist. wire jiggled too much at high speed and lost ignition. It didn't do this at low speed. Suggest checking all ign. wiring connections while your at the Dist/plug wires.

I did some more trouble shooting after the carb was rebuilt.
anyway I replaced the original Lucas coil with a cheap $18 one for a pinto and the problem is gone. I had weak spark at high speed causing a miss.
Thanks

that is part of the secondary ignition you don't see that much but i have seen it in the past normaly the coil just shuts down . to explain what happened as the heat and pressure increase in the combustion chamber it takes more voltage to jump the spark gap if you cant get it out of the coil or through the cap and wires uou will have a missfire that is also why a plug may spark when you test it than short out when installed in the engine .

maybe I should have bought the one with a higher voltage. I wasn't sure if that was the problem and thought $18 was a good gamble.
oh,I got a really good deal on some HID lights .Look at my picture.
Jim

if you don't have a hei cap and 8 mm wires than dont get a hei coil also if you are using points than you general need a coil for such if you have electronic ignition than thats the coil to buy in general your 18 dollar coil should be capable of 50 kv wihc wil work just fine on your bombi.
