Hi I have 1979 Bombardier Bombi that has leaking axle seals. I would like to know how to remove the srocket hub to get at them. I have already removed the axle and sprocket. Any help for this would be appreciated thanks.
Well you are half done, behind the front axle cap and after you have pulled the axle out you are looking at the outer seal remove it then under that you will after you remove some grease see a round threaded nut with four small notches in it. there will be one or two lock tabs in those notches bend them back and then with a brass drift tap that ring to the counter clockwise direction care not to damage the threads. The inner and outer seal shoul be different. Good luck

Make sure you clean all the grease out as much as possible then hit her with KROIL. Do it for a few days and check your progress dailey. Its gonna take time to creep between the threads and rust ect.
Also check out Brownwell gunsmithing tools. Find the small bottles with the metal tubed tips. Fill the bottle up and use that to precisely get the kroil where you want it without wasting any!
I repaired a leaking hub on my 78 Bombi but just needed to make a new gasket around the axle hub the bolted it back to the sprocket. worked fine after that
Thanks for all the info, finally got the locknuts out but some of the threads on the axle tube (drive housing) also came off with the nuts. Any one know who might have an axle tube? Plannord Equipment in Quebec has them listed as obselete.I will try to post some pictures of my bombi as I am repainting it.
