Bombardier J5 Tires. Air or Solid?

Bradwiller

New member
I just purchased a Bombardier J5 (I think). I will look for the serial number next week when I get home. For now, can anyone tell me if I should use solid or air tires? I have solid tires now, and one is split in half.
THANKS !!

Welcome to the Forum !

From the tiny pictures I'm guessing it's a SW48.

Either type of tire is fine. Air costs less. Solid is better for the woods but the air ones are pretty tough. Wheels are different for each kind.

If the split isn't too wide, the tire will still work for a while

I'm guessing too, 'cause the pictures are sooooooo small. Prepare yourself to pay a lot for tires. I have solids on mine with minor cracks and have found 2 bone yards that want 400$ for the tire/wheel assy. Just the solid tire, don't know. I do wonder if the air filled tires give a smoother ride???

I also have a split solid rubber tire on my SW-48, and looking for a replacement. Did I read somewhere on this site that one can use emergency "doughnut" tires as a substitute? Has anyone tried to do so???

I have a couple of the clamp on solid tires in stock and can get the air tires if needed. just a note rubber prices are going up soon. call me 1-888-797-8799 ext 242

Actually, I just picked up a complete chassis, including all solid wheel, tracks, clutches, drive cogs, and the tub last weekend. So I am all set as far as looking for a solid tire for a sw-48. Thanks for letting me know just the same. Incidentally, what are you looking to get for one of your manuals? Let me know. Thanks.
