Big Block Chevy with Allison Automatic

I found a guy with a 1995 Chevy 454 engine and an Allison 4-speed automatic transmission. They have a little under 150K miles. These are out of a nice-running U-Haul truck which had Throttle Body Injection.
Is something like that worth $3000?
Would that be worthwhile in an old Tucker?
What are your thoughts?

No clue about putting in an old Tucker.

Worth $3000? Is it rebuilt? Are you willing to pay to have it rebuilt? Solid engine, no question. But a U-Haul is generally driven like it's been stolen.

1500 series?

That is a lot of weight. Stout frame and wide tracks recommended.
A large fuel tank would be worthwhile as well. :tiphat:

just my two cents worth here....
A snow machine is a MISSION CRITICAL piece of equipment.....Even if it's just for pleasure use...

All the electronics that run the engine and tranny are IMHO simply not Hardened well enough to trust in a place that there may not be help available......At least not easily.

I am a GM fan and love the 454 and the Allison tranny.....The magic diode boxes...NOT AT ALL.

keep your cat simple and easy to fix out in the brush......

Sure, all the new groomers all all CANBUS computer controlled.....But normally these are park machines and the park has a bunch of machines ...One quits up on the MT....They send up a couple more to drag the dead one home....Or a mechanic with a computer to see wasssssup.....

It takes so little to knock out the electronics.....The more complicated....the easier it is to break it.....

The 454 with Carbureted fuel supply and a large cap HEI ignition.......About as bomb proof as it gets....
Pair this with a well set up TH400 tranny........Simple. Robust....Work good, last a long time.

The Allison AT540 is a 4 speed heavy duty box.....Hydraulic controls....non electronic......
One Caveat to the Allison is the extra parasitic drag of the gear box......The TH400 can get the job done well and they are cheap to buy, cheap to rebuild and all around good box........

The 540 is not an overdrive model......But really tough box

Just my 2 cents.......

Have fun

The tag on the transmission appears to read: AT545 with maybe an RM after that.
I was under the impression that the bell housing adapter to use a Chevy V8 is really hard to come by?
Is Blackfoot Tucker around? Perhaps you can weigh in?
