Both Biden and Trump seek credit for ceasefire-hostages deal between Israel, Hamas
The ceasefire deal marks a major win for President Joe Biden in his final days in office, but President-elect Donald Trump is also seeking credit.

Biden, the lamest of all lame duck presidents, and only days before he leaves office, was quick to run to the podium and take credit for the deal that's just been struck between Israel and Hamas, which promises to release, in phases over the next six weeks, the hostages being held by Hamas in exchange for hundreds of Palestinian terrorist prisoners being held by Israel.
Biden said it was the same deal that his administration proposed back in May of 2024, so he and his administration deserve the credit.
However, what strikes me is that, in the intervening time period of 8 months, not only has the deal not been accepted (until now), but the war intensified and broadened, and all while the Biden administration has been pressuring Israel to dial back their offensive actions.
So, why has the deal only been struck now? It seems to me that Israel gained a lot of leverage by their continued offensive, against the Biden administration's wishes. In addition, and this appears to explain the timing of the deal, the election of Trump in November, and his promise that "all hell will break loose" if the hostages aren't released by the time he's inaugurated, really seems to be responsible for this happening NOW, only five days before his inauguration/deadline.
Based on that, I give the credit to Netanyahu and Trump, above any others, especially Biden, whose weak stance is likely to have actually lengthened the war.
