Belts, Belts and belts.

I have an opportunity to pick up some belting and would like to know if this is a good or bad idea. Any input would be great. A local resort has some belting that came off their big PB resort groomers. I have a thiokol 1202B and wold like to use its if it is in good condition. So my concerns are about the existing holes and punching new ones to mate with my grousers. What is the consensus on this? With the existing holes, will the belts be weak after punching new holes? Anything I am not thinking of?
Thanks for the input!

There may be issues with UV exposure too, so look for cracking.

Much of the belting used on older snowcats is just industrial conveyor belting, which is typically used indoors and not subjected to UV rays from the sun.

Worrying about the holes is a good idea too. I suppose much of the concern would be how many holes and how close they are to each other. How much the belt was compressed by the grousers and if there are signs of wear from the edges of the grousers.

Reusing belting off another snowcat may not be the best idea for long term but if the belting is cheap enough it might be worth if, provided it looks to be in good condition. There is a logical reason why they are replacing the belting.

Just buy new, using old belting. It not worth the time and effort, when we pull belts they are usually at end of life, if you are looking to save some money drill/punch the holes yourself, that takes time not that hard, but make sure you buy proper belting, talk with supplier they can be a lot of help, bring sample of what you need

One potential issue I can see with using belting from another cat is if the grouser spacing is different you will run into situations where a set of holes will need to overlap, meaning you will have to double drill some holes.

I plan on replacing my belting soon as well 220 PIW (lbs per inch width) seems to be the ticket. Think I can get the belting needed to do my BR-100 for around $1200. Will have to drill and do some cutting for width. Found it at McMaster. Could probebly find a source local to me but its a start anyway.

I bought 100ft long x 12 inches wide for about $1000 from Kaman. I bought the lighter belting used for grain elevators, which has a thin outer rubber layer. It has worked very well on my Frandee.

Hey folks,
Thanks for the reply's. The price was right for used belts, free. That alone should be a caution for me? Your reply's have reinforced that opinion. I'll get through this season and work on the new belts this summer.
Thanks again!
