Bad news today

I feel like I got hit in the gut today. The 15 year old son of a friend of mine is in the hospital, His leukemia is back after about 5 years of remission. This kid has had a really rough life, he lost his mom when the was about 2 to breast cancer. Then at 5 he was diagnosed with leukemia and went thru several years of chemo. Last year his dad and step mom got a divorce (she was the only mom that he really ever knew), now his leukemia is back and he is in the hospital undergoing intensive chem. Damn this hurts! When he got his strength back during his remission I loaned him my kids chipmunk 22 rifle (he's real small for his age due to the leukemia and both his dad and mom are small) you should have seen the look on that little guy's face, it was like christmas morning. For 3 years whenever he left the house (they llive on a small farm) that rifle was at his side, he shot it every day and every time he saw me he thanked me for letting him use it. Now he's in the hospital and I'm wishing that we could go back to those happy times.

Rugerman, prayers from my family are on the way. Its tough to see a kid get sick and really hard when it is something as serious as Leukemia. I hope he gets through all this and that the chemo not too hard on his system.

Nothing hurts worse than watching a family go through something like that. The kids seem to handle it better than the parents. Hopefully he'll get it back into remission and you guys can have those happy times again. Never give up, because he needs all the positive energy he can get from everybody. You and this kids family are in our thoughts.

That would be so rough ..... Prayers from here too.

Your visits with him, and remembering the happy times will keep them alive for him too. It's always harder when a kid is this sick. We'll keep him in our thoughts and prayer too.

Wow! I can sure understand. About a year ago, another firefighter in our district lost his son, to cancer. He was 13. My son was only a few weeks older. Talk about hitting home. to make things worse, we lost two other firefighters within a year, not to a LODD(line of duty death), but to cancer. Damn!

Hang tough, and do what you can for the family. It is so hard to have them go through that. So hard.

We lost those three, and then I lost another friend to cancer a couple months ago. Found out last night, a duck hunting buddy, has pancreatic cancer, with an estimate of a year to live.

Stand by that kid and the family. It is so hard to go through. Even small things can make a big difference in them getting through this.

Poor baby. He needs lots of prayers and support. I'm there for the prayers. I know exactly how you feel. My DH is undergoing chemo treatments for lung cancer.

It's never anything but angering and unfair when a young person is stricken with so many adversities as this. My thoughts and feelings go out to him and you, and here's hoping that he is able to beat this nasty thing once and for all.

Look at it this way, the time that you helped give him of enjoyment is what he will always keep in his heart.

Hey guys thanks for all the replys, sorry it took me so long to get back I've been pulling 12 hr days. Again thanks for all the kind words and prayers, all help and good wishes welcomed. rugerman

I talked to a mutual friend today, Trent is comming home Sunday after his first round of chemo, luckely he hasn't lost his appetite yet so he's looking for some home cooking. They worked it out so that he will be able to go for chemo once a week and he won't have to stay in the hospital unless he has a setback. Now time will tell, again thanks for the support. rugerman

Thats very good news!!! :thumb: I hope he has a great appetite! Did they give him something for the chemo as far as nausia? :ermm:

They're coming out with all kinds of new drugs to fight leukemia these days, I'll pray one of them is successful for your friend.
