AVG bug kills win7 computers

muleman

Gone But Not Forgotten
AVG has withdrawn their recent update after reports that it caused an infinite loop on Windows7 64 bit systems. Windows7 32 bit systems were not affected.
This is not the first time AVG has had this sort of problem and it probably won't be the last.
Here is the exact error message that is received:
"AVG - Installer Error" "A system restart is required in order to continue with the installation. Please restart your system and try again." Rebooting gets another error message, round and round.
The issue caused a backup on the AVG Official Forums where the following message was issued: "Please be informed that due to the high forum traffic following the release of AVG 2011 and the limited capacity of our moderators, our responses to your posts may be delayed. We are doing our best to answer all posts as quickly as possible." "We offer our apologies for any inconvenience caused by this situation. "

What better way to start your day.

AVG is bloody awful on 7 false stop.....i have found it to slow the operating system to levels that are far to unacceptable.

The best by far is Avast....Nod 32 is a close 2nd.

Agreed , AVG was fine untill about 5 years ago IMO & they did something really different to where it crashed my system on XP , it took a fresh install to even get rid of it & I been using avast ever since . :hammer:

AVG did change a while back into a slow slug. I think it was V.8 That did it in. I use Avast and I can't even tell it's running.

Nice screw up they did however:hammer:
Nothing like a endless loop:yum::yum:
If you wanted to drive a CPU nuts,
write and compile this very short program:

A=0
Do while A=0
Loop

That is like a dog chasing his tail. But at the full speed of your processor .

I used to like AVG. But all good things must come to and I guess. This makes me wonder now....I did an AVG update a few days ago. Since then, my firefox hasn't been working properly. I'll try getting rid of AVG to see if that helps it.

groomerguyNWO,
Un-install AVG. Give AVAST a try. I was running with zero Antivirus for the past year, and found that AVAST is so light on resources.. It's damn near invisible. Trust me on this. You won't regret it.

I agree , not only is Avast better now then it used to be , but when it updates now it uses way less memory from yer puter but now has a female voice that tells you its been updated :biggrin:

Got rid of AVG tonight. Uninstalled firefox completely and reinstalled it and its working great now. Been using it for the past 3 hrs without a single hickup. Now, off to install avast.

I also use malewarebytes anti-malware and c-cleaner to keep it running smooth.
