Attack Of The Pigs!

Link: Moment gang of marauding pigs dig up pristine front garden during months-long rampage in quaint Norfolk village

It appears residents are being harassed by marauding swine:

A group of rogue pigs who have been causing chaos in a quaint village for months have been caught on camera destroying a pristine lawn after escaping from a nearby farm.

The pigs are accused of digging up gardens and causing thousands of pounds worth of damage in property raids in Garvestone, Norfolk.

Although they are regularly rounded up and returned, the escapes keep happening - with more members of the intrepid herd breaking out and heading for the gardens.

There is, of course, the simplest of solutions:

Sadly, this is the Sceptered Ilse, where common sense is frowned upon, and pigs are more important than private property and financial loss.

BTW - if the pics don't make you hungry, I'm skeptical we can be friends.

HOG HUNTING RULES:

If you shoot one of the piglets, the mama will run and the other piglets will follow.

If you shoot the mama pig, the piglets will remain and you can pick them off at your leisure.
That is pretty much true.
I've been fighting hogs all winter. They've torn up my 4-acre yard until it's like a ploughed field. I've trapped some, shot some, 7 in all, but they still keep coming back. Usually when you shoot one out of a bunch, they scatter and you don't see them again. I don't know how many separate groups are coming up around the house but I, obviously, am not killing the right freekin' ones.
The sad thing is that I treat part of the yard with grub granules every 6-months and they never bothered that part, but the rest of the yard is fair game. Later this month I'm going to treat the whole yard with granules and we'll see if that will slow the buggers down. It'll cost a small fortune but it'll be worth it to get some sleep at night.

I tried to post a picture but couldn't get it to work.

I get the stuff from our local feedstore. It's called "IMIDACLOPRID 0.5G". It comes in 30# sacks and costs about $50/sack.
I apply it a little heavier than recommended but it seems to work. The part of the yard where I applied it, that used to be their favorite spot, wasn't bothered by the hogs. They crossed over it and rooted up one little bit but then moved on to tear up the rest of the yard big time.
I still get gophers so have to use different stuff for them.

Funny you should mention that product. That's exactly the product I was considering after reading your first post.

At 60-80 pounds per acre, ($120-150/acre) it's not cheap but I'm still thinking of going this route. I spoke with those around me and we've all agreed to to it at the same time.

What concerns me a bit is where are the moles then going to go? This will kill the grubs so the moles have no food in the treated areas but where and how far will the moles go seeking new food? Will the moles just cause problems elsewhere or will they starve due to limited travel distance?
