ATF Type F - Dextron (Skidozer 302)

Hey all,

I need to add some fluid to the hydraulic reservoir of my Bombardier cat. The fluid in the tank has a pink color. Best I can tell is that it's ATF Type F (Dextron III).

Can anybody take a WAG and confirm this before I load it up, without seeing, tasting, or doing gas chromotography on what might be in the reservoir?

Thanks!

Pink fluid means there was water or condensation in your atf then blended with the pump. draining would be the safest bet before it freezes, then refill.
If your hydraulics just run a blade , depending on the pump, you can run a 10-W hydraulic oil for a little less $$ , instead of atf. Cheers:beer:

Ken, Dextron Three will do fine. but if it is pink does it have water in it?
Guess Thiokol2track and I posted at the same time that has happened before.

It's a hydrostatic machine.

It has hydraulics, for the blade. I assume that the oil is for the blade. There's no water in the oil - even the new stuff is pink. What I don't understand about this machine at this point is whether or not this oil reservoir is also used for the rear drives/sprockets. Do you think this reservoir serves the final drives too?

I know the hydraulic oil in our Lamtrac is pink.............but it was originally clear. We add a hydraulilc dye to the oil so that if we should happen to break a line or fitting on the trail, its easy to pinpoint were it's coming from. The BR160 I run has two seperate tanks. One is strictly for the hydrostatic drives and the other is for all other hydraulic functions. The one for the hydrostats is dyed blue, the other is dyed pink.(so we know where the problem is if anything breaks)

Thats a great idea.:thumb: Do you suppose some one else put somw dye in kgracey's machine ?

Kgacey - You should have two reservoirs if the systems are seperate.

Ken, Unless someone has converted it which could be but I doubt it is not hydrostatic it is brake band steer and it steers with hydraulic assist cylinders
but if you can do a 360 degree turn in one spot or close. it is still the way all the other 301's came from the factory we still have four here.

The blade and the steering use the same oil, that is the hydro assist steering that is it may have the master cylinder with brake fluid system also some did as a back up the long levers to the floor the short levers at the front of the seat are the assist levers:thumb:
