AT&T customer service ~ 43 minutes, 33 seconds

Seems totally crazy to me but I spent 43 minutes on the phone with AT&T. I got really tired of my SPRINT service so I decided to take the plunge and buy an iPhone, which entails switching to AT&T.

Had I known it would have taken the better part of an hour I would have just stuck with the dropped calls and weak signals that come with SPRINT in rural areas.

The lady was vary pleasant, but for crying out loud 43 minutes? Seems to me that AT&T needs to streamline their service center.

Bob, you could have signed up as an Apple Developer and then downloaded the iPhone simulator for you Mac. You'll probably get about as good phone service from the simulator as you will from AT&T.

Well I know that AT&T has a poor reputation, but SPRINT has literally NO SERVICE at all where I live. Bad service has got to be better than none. RIGHT???

Up here in the hills AT&T has better service than anyone unless you are real close to a verizon tower.

I've used a bunch of providers. Yes, calling ATT sucks, but they have the best coverage for me so far, worldwide.

my wife has an AT&T samsung captivate -- our friend with an iphone is extremely jealous of it.

LOL, I just picked up a Samsung Evo from Sprint a couple of weeks ago since Sprint said that they could save me about $150 a month from my cell bill. So far, I have to say that I like the Samsung Evo better than the iPhone 4, and I've had an iPhone since day one for iPhones. To be fair, the Evo software (Android?) is very similar to the iPhone's software. That made the learning curve rather easy. The phone itself is faster than the iPhone 4 and, IMHO, it even has a better resolution screen when compared side by side.

What seems really odd is that I'm getting better signal coverage from Sprint than AT&T. I took the family camping in S. IL at Garden of the Gods and you can just pitch an AT&T phone; zero signal. The phone just says "no service". I had between full service to 3 bars wherever we went over the weekend with the Samsung Evo through Sprint. The Sprint store told me that they had new tower sharing agreements with Verizon.

I dunno any inside info by any means. That's just what they told me. The only reason I came back to shop Sprint was because about 6 or 7 years ago I stopped by the same Sprint store to compare against AT&T and, after asking where I travel mostly, the Sprint salesperson told me that it would be cheaper for me to buy a new car every month than to go with Sprint due to all the roaming fees. I guess roaming is gone? I dunno, I'm just trying them. I'm yet to be in a place that has 4G, so I can't tell you how fast that would be.

Well, hold the presses on me complimenting Sprint. Unfortunately, it seems that their customer service is non-existent. I wasted well over 3 hours yesterday evening trying to get a small issue resolved only to be told after almost 3 1/2 hours of calls that their server was "being updated". This is after 3 of their techs assured me that the problem was on my end and on my computer; even when I received the same error using their phone to go where they directed me.

This is unfortunate. After a promising start with equipment and coverage, Sprint falls completely flat on their face when it comes to customer service. Apparently their server is still down (12 hours now) since I still have the same issue. If they can't provide the service they advertise and their customer service is that poor, I'll just have to turn the matter over to my attorneys since I have no time nor patience for their incompetency. My law firm will have no problem breaking the contract with Sprint when Sprint is actually the one breaking the contract by failing to provide the services for which I am paying.

So Bob, 43 minutes and 33 seconds sure beats Sprint's customer service all to hell. I'm close to 3 and a half hours and have gotten nowhere. Apparently Sprint is extremely ill prepared to handle the new users they are gaining. Soon that won't be a problem as they leave just as fast as they arrive.

FWIW the reason I stuck with Sprint so long was because of the customer service I got from the local Sprint retail store. Anything I ever needed they handled for me. I never had to deal with the Sprint customer service because they did it for me!

With the new iPhone I will miss that support because I got it over the phone direct from AT&T. So far I can say that the signal at my home is only very marginally better. Seems the phone will ring when a call comes in but I can't hear the caller.

As for the iPhone itself. Eh. Its better in some ways than the Palm Pre. Screen is bigger, clearer, etc. But the operating system of the Palm Pre was even easier than the Apple iPhone's operating system. I like both. Some things about the iPhone I'm not thrilled with, but that is based on my familiarity with the Palm operating system.
