Ever see those sporting events for dogs on TV that will fetch the ball or "object" into a pool and measure the distance to see which dog can jump the longest?

Never much into hunting dogs, however, this guy is somewhat special. Have the kids next door hitting balls and Jack (the dog) will catch them in the air. GREAT leaping ability, and he even will even catch the ball when you thow it high up in the air towards him. Guy can jump a good distance off the ground. Never realized what great eyesight dogs can have as well. At night, when I can hardly see the ball, throw it towards him, he'll still catch it in mid-air (I'll throw the ball up in the air right in front of me and I can't even catch it because it's so dark).

Perhaps a pipe dream, but if there was ever an event (sporting dog "catch" perhaps?) held within a couple hundred of miles, would love to try it him.

Not even sure where to look.

That dog looks like a real jumper.

How is it with a frisbee? There's assorted competitions and sports with dogs and frisbees.

Thanks for the info Brian, I have to ask, how and where did you start your inquiry? There's a club right down the road in Winston, will have to check it out. However, Jacks idea of agility is going through something, not around it, so some work may be in order.

Don't know about the frisbee because I suck at throwing one.

Jack is a jumper, only dog I've seen that will jump in the back of a pick up truck while the tail gate is still up (funny watching the other dogs watch him and have to wait for the tail gate to come down).

I did a google search for things like:
dog frisbee competition
dog ball competition

A friend had a dog (shepard/husky mix) that loved to play with one of those rubber rings (probably 6-8" diameter). You could hang it from a branch almost 8' up in the air and it stand under the branch and jump straight up and get it.

Oh, for throwing a frisbee, here's a couple hints:
1. Forget those cheap little frisbees. They barely fly even if they're good. Get a frisbee in the 165 gram weight range.
2. When releasing the frisbee, do your best to assure it's level with the ground for straight flight.
3. Snap your wrist on release to give it a good spin in flight.
4. For normal throws, the thumb should be on top of the frisbee; the pointer finger should lay on the side edge and the remaining fingers go underneath. If you put all 4 fingers on the bottom, it works but not quite as well.
5. Avoid playing on paved or stone surfaces. The landings tear up the plastic lip that your middle finger lays on and starts to really hurt your finger.
