Does anyone here have a PO Box?

I've had one most everywhere I've lived, but this is the first time I haven't had 24 hour access to the boxes. When the post office closes at most other locations, the lobby stays open to allow customers to have access to the PO boxes. The local post office here opens at 8:30 am, closes for an hour from noon until 1:00 pm, and closes for the day at 4:30 pm. Not only are the lobby hours poor, but so are the counter hours. Since I work normal business hours (and a 45 minute drive each way), I only pick up my mail on Saturdays.

Does anyone else experience this, or do you have 24 hour access to your box?

We have a P.O. Box and we have a mailbox out by the road. I use both for different reasons. The post office also has limited hours and locks the lobby doors so you cannot get to the P.O. Boxes. It used to be open longer hours, but recently really cut back on the hours.

Mail arrives at 9am everyday at our PO box. The main lobby is open from 8am to 8pm. They are gone from 12 to 1 pm so if you have a tag to pick up a package It has to be done from 8 am to 12 1pm till 5pm

In Michigan, the box area is open something like 6:30 to 6:30.

In Wisconsin, I've never seen it closed. But I can honestly say I did not try between the hours of 12am and 5am.

Our post office has a divider between the area where the counters are and the post boxes. The lobby, where the boxes are is open 24/7. Counter hours also are not so good here.

Had a PO box almost 30 years in Sturbridge, far as I can remember, limited hours,, 7:30 am to 5pm and 8-12 on Saturday,, the counter closes at 4 or 4:30 some days,,

I have 24/7 access to my PO box here. Lobby hours are short like others have mentioned. They close at 4pm M-F. Tough to make it there before the lobby closes on a normal working day; but at least I can get to the PO box any time I choose.

I have this box on a post at the end of my driveway. The postal carrier puts my mail in this box normally Monday-Saturday. You can get one of these posts and boxes at Home Depot. You might want to give it a try.

Is it open only during normal business hours?

I have 24/7 access to my PO box but my nearest post office is 28 miles from my home. We have no rural delivery to my home as they consider it to dangerous for their employees to drive the mountain roads. :snow2_smi: :4_11_9:

Service window hours are short like others have mentioned. They close at 4:30pm M-F. I can access the lobby area where the PO box is located any time I choose so far. They also have small package boxes available after hours to help expedite package delivery to postal patrons. Customer service is zero as in most large organizations that have a monoply on their type of business.

I knew when I was typing my original post that you would chime in with your usual charm and wit. Very classy, as always.

I also knew it wouldn't occur to you that the USPS only delivers to PO boxes in some zip codes. One day you'll realize that everyone else's circumstances don't always match yours, and there actually are people out there who don't (or can't) do things "your" way.

Actually, I knew that ... but sometimes I have to take license to make my joke (whether some think it's funny or not) work.

We are so remote in Elk City , Idaho that everyone is given a PO box at no charge . There are about 300 of us . UPS and FEDEX will deliver ,to your home if they can get through ,otherwise they leave it at the local cafe and we go pick it up .

In the UK, well here anyway, we have a postman who delivers every day, Monday to Saturday, excepting Bank Holidays. Timba throws a wobbly every time she sees his red van, I cannot decide if it is the postman or the van that she does not like. I don't like the postman very much either, he only ever seems to bring bills! Not much use as a comment about PO boxes, but I thought I would add my 'two pennoth' so you know that I am still alive in Wales.
