Anyone have the iPhone 5

The cell phones in the house are all 3 to 5 years old so I decided to upgrade all of them. Got some iPhone5's for the lovely Mrs_Bob and Melen.

Any pitfalls to this phone? They have iPhone3 now, the new phones should arrive in a few days. I noticed the sync & charging cable is different, not sure that is any big deal. The only place it would be an issue is in the VW Jetta where there is a cable to plug the iPhone into so that you can control iTunes through Jetta's stereo system. Other than that, I'm not sure what troubles I'll have.

Don't know what benefits it offers either!?! Anyone have any insight to any benefits to this phone? I gather it is supposed to have longer battery life than the iPhone3.

BTW, I saved $$$ and bought the factory refurbished phones too.

I don't think it is necessarily a pitfall, but the screen is really small on iphones. With my eyes I like the 5" screens that are available today. Not sure why Apple insists on using a propritary connector when the rest of the world uses mini usb, but that is Apple for you. Other than that I am sure the phone is as good as any. I think batteries are getting better and mobile processors much less hungry as my phone goes two days on a charge with the big HD screen and quad core processor. Can't complain about that.

Mrs. Zoom and daughter are using the iPhone 5's. They both use the crap out of them (wife on phone, daughter listening to music). Never see them charging them during the day so I'm thinking battery life is good. Compared to my Motorola Razr, the screen is small.

As you said, I think the cables are different.

Consider getting them each an OtterBox.

I just got one. So far pretty good. It's light and when I get an LTE connection it's fast.

Battery life is OK - nothing revolutionary. I just hooked it in through Bluetooth to my Jetta and don't bother with the cable unless I need to charge the battery.

And we do the same. I can't recall the last time I connected a phone to the Jetta's cable, but I know my daughter, who frequently forgets to charge her phone, does so.

We don't have all those fancy cables. Our cables are the type you plug into the cigarette lighter for charging. Or is that now called "accessory port"?

Cyberguys.com had adaptor cables the last time I looked at one of their catalogs. If they are the correct ones, no telling! :whistling:

No there is a cable in the glove box, it not only charges the iPhone, but it also integrates it into the radio in the dashboard so you can control the iPhone with the radio controls, play your iTunes music, listen to podcasts, etc.

The Jetta ALSO connects via Bluetooth, but only for the phone functions.

The Jetta uses the old style iPhone cable so you will need to buy the adapter. Get an adapter that has a pig tail if you have any sort of thickness to your iphone case. Otherwise, the connector isn't long enough to reach the port. At least it wasn't with my Magpul iPhone case.
