Anyone have one of the 4200psi power washers from Sam's Club?

Dargo

Like a bad penny...
I have so much concrete and other things to clean that I need a lot more than my 2600psi at 2.6gps Honda pressure washer. It does fine, but it takes forever because I can only do about 6" swipes when cleaning my concrete. I used one of the 4200psi pressure washers with 4gps with the 13hp Honda engine just like at Sam's and it was wicked strong.

This is the exact unit they have at my local Sam's Club Simpson's 4200psi 4gpm Pressure washer

The price my Sam's club has on it is $889. Thoughts?

You might want to ask if it is rebuildable in the future . I bought mine at Costco and it lasted a couple years and then ended up costing me a new pump to get it fixed . The old one was not rebuildable . Some are and some are not . I paid about $ 325 for a new 3000 PSI pump and it is rebuildable ! Ask a rental yard what they suggest . They usually buy really good HD washers that can handle a lot of abuse .

The pump is definitely rebuildable. I've looked it up and the pump alone generally sells for $399 on the internet and most all places that sell the pumps also sell all the components for it. So far, I see it's got a $400 pump (rounding), a $140 hose, $75 worth of wand and sprayer tips and about a $600 Honda engine. That counts nothing for the cart. So, it's clear that you can't 'make' one for that price. There is also a little card on the new demo sitting out telling of how Jack Simpson has been making pressure washers since the late 50's. Here is a link to the manufacturer's history Simpson Pressure Washers

It's a lot of bucks for a power washer, but I do have a need for one that size. I just was curious if anyone has any experience with them. I wasted a couple of hours on the internet seeing if I could beat the price; I couldn't. Any other thoughts or comments? Oh yeah, that's the same engine I have on my 7500kw peak / 6500kw constant generator and I probably have 1200 hours or so on it and it still starts first pull, doesn't use any oil and seems to have the same power it had when new. When running the generator 24/7, changing the oil every 100 hours seemed to come up really fast. The last couple of times I put Amsoil synthetic in it and went 250 hours between changes with no apparent ill effect. It still looked clean and never got low between changes. So, I'm pretty impressed with that small Honda engine.

I have a Porter Cable that's a spitting image of the one you seek, same engine and everything. If you look around you will see Northern Tool, Troy-bilt, and Campell Hausfeld are very similiar. Simpson is a new name from when I was buying so I have to believe it's a re-tag of a washer made by one and distributed by many. That said mine has been very reliable! I have a 2600 and a 4200 so the big one only comes out when warranted but it's been rock solid!

Check the link ............. actually cheaper but shipping gets it over unless you have sales tax!

That is one place I compared, but that one lacks the onboard storage setup that the Simpson has and I like. You have to go to their more expensive model to get that according to their sales rep when I called. Still, the basics are the same, just like the "DeWalt" from Lowes that is $1300 bucks. I like the layout, I just want to be confident it is a decent unit. Thanks.

You know I didn't notice that on the link picture, mine has the onboard unit plus a hose reel with 50 foot of hose. I got mine NIB on e-bay for $700 from a guy who had a motorcycle shop near Erie. I didn't ask how he got it ....... :whistling:

That's a good deal! Yup, I can see that the part that holds the nozzles is in the exact same spot as what I'm looking at but obviously doesn't have the reel on top. They sell the reel for an additional $75. So on that site, yours would cost about $1200 plus shipping. So, you think it's a decent machine? It sounds stupid, but I seem to be debating more on this than buying property or an RV or a rental house etc.

Yes it's a good machine, I wouldn't hesitate to buy that Simpson your looking at. You have to be careful, it will do some damage! I don't know much about General Pump ...............

Better late than never. I bought 4 different pressure washers before this was over. The first one from Sam's was simply defective. I then bought the "same" washer from Lowes under the John Deere Label. Holy cow, nowhere close to the same machine!! Lower quality pump, lower quality cart, shorter hose, solid wheels that slide like they are on ice and let the washer run away during use. One a 1 to 5 rating, it gets a 1.5 rating.

I then went to Home Depot and bought their "best" Ridgid fuel injected pressure washer. On a 1 to 5 rating, it rated a solid zero. They traded the first one out thinking it was defective. The 2nd was just as bad. It was horrible to start, leaked everywhere, was positively impossible to keep from running off with hard plastic wheels and very, very weak pressure with low volume. To Home Depot's defense, the store manager called Ridgid and gave them an ear full and gave me a $50 gift certificate for wasting my time on a junk machine.

So......back to Sam's I went and bought the Simpson I started with. I now have about 20 hours on it and it's fantastic! No leaks, it doesn't run away. It's not as bad on gas as I thought and it's an absolute beast of a pressure washer. I bought the little round disc that is for cleaning concrete at Home Depot (with my gift certificate), and it works wonders. I bought 100' of extra "Monster Hose" on eBay for $75 along with various fittings. Now I don't need to move the pressure washer much with 150' of hose. I give the Simpson at Sam's Club a solid 5 out of 5. If you look on line at others that are "similar", you'll find that they are not the same. They either have a lower quality pump, lower quality cart, shorter hose, etc. If you want a powerful pressure washer without spending $5k for a heated one, grab a Simpson at Sam's Club. :flowers:
