A few days ago, I went down to Tom's shop and picked up one of the weights he takes off forktrucks. No problem fabbing up a bracket to attach to the TPH. My idea is to fab the bracket so I can leave the weight attached to the tractor, and hookup three point stuff to that. My problem is, how do I fab up a bracket to recieve the hitch pins on the implement? The top link is no problem either, just the bottom two. A piece of 3/8 flat, with a shape cutout would reciece the pins, but how do I keep the implement from falling off once I raise the 3 point? I've measured the distance between the pins on my rake, boxblade, and back blade. They're all within an inch of each other, so I see no problem there either. I think the advantage of leaving the weight and bracket attached all the time, is that I'll be able to use it for not only a counterweight, but for ballast on the implement also, without having to screw around making a seperate mount for each piece.

What say you wizards of the welder?:tiphat::beer:

The lower brackets are slotted to accept a couple of 3/8-16 (or larger) bolts. This allows you to compensate for the width of your implements, as well as putting them on and taking them off simply. I have shown just a simple hole for the 3PH pins, but I would probably suggest getting a couple of the weldable Hind joints, just like on the ends of your OEM 3PH lower arms.

The upper bracket is simply sized to allow the upper connection of your implements to fit inside it, and then pinned.
 
Dave, just a couple of technical notes:

1) The drawing is gorgeous. How did you do it?

2) You're killing me with a picture 1037 pixels wide when I'm viewing it on a 800 x 600 laptop screen! (Old HP laptop out at the ranch.) Scrolling sidewise to read each line using a touchpad 'mouse' is a pain. I'd like to follow this thread - is there any way you could crop that drawing to maybe 720 wide, same height?

How do you handle a tall slender weight safely? I would be afraid of it toppling while attaching it.

Dave, Greg, California; Great suggestions! I see how to modify the drawing to possibly work.

I was thinking of using some C-channel for a bottom crossmember, and welding a gusset on the verticle to catch those 3 boltholes already there. Those are 3/4" boltholes, plenty good. Then using your ideas, use a narrower piece of "C" [2], and cut slots in them to allow for width adjusts. I fantasize welding some 3/4" bolts for the slotted "C" to slide on. Then fab up on the ends of the 2 slotted "C"s, with those Hind joints mentioned.

As far as handling this much weight, you do it very carefully!

Tom, at another forum, originally gave me this idea. What I'm thinking, is doing the same as he did, as far as installing/removing from the machine, with a slight twist. I plan on using 3 pieces of 2 1/2" square tubing, welded on the bottom of the bottom crossmember, the center one of DOM so I can throw a ballmount on if wanted.

Clear as mud, eh?

Then again, things might be easier if I knew if this weight was castiron, or caststeel. Anyone know of a way to find out? I'm afraid if I started welding on this, and it turned out to be iron, I might crack it. This wieght is 33" tall, 16" wide at its widest, and close to 4" thick. It may wieght between 800-1000#. Oughta be enough ballst, huh?
 
Went out to TSC today, and found the lower links I need. The girl that tried to help me, wasn't much help though, but once I found them, she did find the price! $11.42 each. Not bad. I'm thinking also of adapting a ratchet chain binder to use as a top link. There's going to be a lot of weight, and I think it may be easier to use. I've got the details worked out on how to adjust the width thanks to suggestions you guys gave me.

The lower links will be welded to a piece of angle I'll slot out, or just drill a series of holes. And then weld in some gussets so they don't flex.

Hope to get this done and working. Aren't there any ney sayers out there?:confused::tiphat::beer:
