Any beekeepers here?

Gone But Not Forgotten
Guess I am going to get into it real soon. Since so many Amish moved away from here the bee population is way down. My BIL and I are going to build hive boxes Sunday. His first one is doing good and we are making 2 more. We need them for better pollination around here anyway and we love honey. Should be a nice addition to the self sustaining food supply.

I tried offering my land for a beekeeper to put his boxes on. Thought with all of my raspberries it would be good. To much hassle with getting the to neighbors to approve and sign waivers. Gave up on it.

So will I. I need to find a way to keep the bears out of the hives first. Nothing cooler than bees!
I worry about the same thing. May put the hive in the fenced in area with the fruit trees. Bear has not been around yet this year. Not that I mind, as they usually make a mess for me to clean up.

Around here we place the hives in a 6' foot fence. the bears that are here are small and it keeps other nuisances out too. Including kids.

Mule..Might be alittle to far for you...But my neighbor beekeeper just died a few months ago..he had about 50-60..stacks....probably 5-8 boxes high..His honey house was loaded with all thats needed..cyntrifical(sp) that held 8-10 frames..that spun the honey out..I thought I saw where his kids had them listed on CL...for $65 a hive..I would have to check that..:whistling:

Garden fence is 4 ft. with electric wire around the top to keep the coons and bears out of my sweet corn. Hope it soon quits freezing. I want to plant some corn soon and get other tings out and planted.
