Antarctic Snowcats Heading For The Scrapper!?!?!?

Bobcat

Je Suis Charlie Hebdo
Just got word, not confirmed yet...

A cargo ship left Antarctica a week ago heading for Littleton Harbour, NZ and then to Long Beach, CA. It supposedly contains research station refuse and recently replaced snowcats, possibly Nodwells. My source is not sure if these cats are already assigned to a scrap yard, a buyer, or to be sold off at a later date.

Turns out the picture used for the avatar was from another site and they had not given permission for its use here. Not Sushis fault, he didn't know the history, but I scolded him in a PM anyway! :yum: I should have wondered where Sush, of all people here, came up with such a cool Kristi picture. :pat:

Let me Guess. Did you get a shitty Email threatening you with a law suit if you didnt removed it? LMAO! You of all people! Why do you even visit that site anymore? Its about as dead as they come! The funny thing is he killed it with bullshit like this.

Having ridden in those antarctic snowcats for 12 years, I'd be wary of finding a steal. The surface they ride on down there is not snow, but rough sea ice, extremely hardpack sastrugui snow (up to 1 meter high in deep field) and the volcanic dirt of McMurdo Station where the Heavy Vehicle Maintenance Facility is located. I know that shop well as I helped build it in 1986-87. The suspension and tracks of all antarctic cats will have gotten a real spanking. Plus the engines will have a ton of cold starts and prolonged idling while choking on the fine volcanic dust. The staff down there does a good job, but these cats will have been pretty worked.

A few pictures of some of the new cats in antarctica...

My thoughts exactly, I figure that they are all junk....

So when I bid really low on them to make sure that nobody has to endure working on them to save you guys, remember that they are all junk...:snow2_smi:

I hear that they are all infected from an alien virus that has been frozen for centuries but are now being awakined because they have traveled to far from the buried mother ship. That and what Polor said. :thumb:

These two 1989 LMCs served their time with Antarctic Services and made it back in good enough shape that I bought both. One showed 1200 hours and the other was at about 1835 total hours of service in Antarctica. They are in service today. I still own one and a neighbor bought the other one from me. Both had new track belting installed prior to my purchase of them and had been gone through well enough that they both ran excellent with good motors, rear ends and transmissions. The maintenance appears to be pretty good overall on these cats. I spent considerable time in the shop going over and fixing what needed to be fixed prior to putting them back in service. They both have run flawlessly for the past three years with minimum maintenance required and should run for many more.

Every time I see photos of your 1200's... they are just beautiful machines :boobies: ... one reason I sent shots to our resident clothier for shirts/hats/etc... This may be the one machine-type that I cheat on my Trackmasters for.

Once you operate a 1200 you'll never go back to the other whatevers..:pat:
The Trackmasters will be forgotton and left for the dust bunnies to tend too as soon as you touch the controls of the 1200.....:boobies: Big, heavy and they can take a poundin.....:moon:

I know...I know... I just finished a full session of wipping with 9-tails :drama: to try and keep myself on the straight and narrow...or is it the old and decaying? Uh-oh, I think I just heard a differential case start to crack... the ladies can tell my mind is wandering... :boobies: :17875: They'll make me pay! They're all high maintenance! Just curious, those 1200's look identical except one has 4 wheels and one has 5 what gives with that?

See prior posts about 4 versu 5 wheel LMC 1200's.

I guess they came up short a couple wheels on the production line and this one got shorted....:yum:

Mark you calendars for the next auction>........
