While some areas of the world are in a panic about global warming, the icepack is growing in Antarcitca. In fact it has apparently been growing constantly since the beginning of when they starting recording such things via satellite 33 years ago.

It also seems like the North Pole ice may be shrinking. So while the north is slowly melting the south is slowing freezing.

The big Ice break offs in the media headlines are not because of the Antartic ice melting. It is because so much is being made the weight of it is pushing much more of it, much farther, out to sea. The apendages succumb to the currents and the tides. These Mega forces are Titantic and, they break off.

The north and south poles exchange command of cold and warm spells in opposite cycles. These cycles have nothing to do with AGW or even normal Global warming have occured at regular intervals for millineums.

But Al Gore and his legions of lemmings refuse to accept any science not veridical with their Athropolegic ( man made) religion.

I swear on NPR this afternoon there was a story about how the ice mass is shrinking in Antartica, to a new record low square mile total...

And a decade of warming temps down there..??

I guess it depends apon who is telling the the truth. I like the link above.

The story that I read was about Arctic ice melt and how the sea ice had reached the lowest surface volume or area since satellite photos have been available.

Must be time to bring in an intern with knee pads, who also likes cigars.:brows:

there was so much arctic sea ice this summer shipping was put way behind and some of the smaller comunitys like where my other snow cat is didn't see a barge this summer every one is headed south now we have 1 more freighter in in a week or so any thing due to be forwarded will be waiting till next summer Shell didn't get a hole started and had to move their oil rig because of sea ice. i still say global warming my asse also i hate to say it if the weather patterns don't change you all aer in for a mild winter again and here in alaska we may be in or record cold and snow again. aeras in south central got 9 inches of rain over night and more is comming down

That's what I read. I was thinking 'Wow, the least amount of Arctic ice ever measured'. Then I noticed that they've only been tracking it since something like 1979. That really gives you a great perspective (sarcasm intended). Now that article seems to be in question. If you ever watch "Deadliest Catch", you'd wonder about that shrinking ice cap story anyway. In the last season all of the crab boat captains said it was the coldest season with the most ice they'd ever experienced. That makes me really wonder if the north pole ice really is melting. I honestly don't think those crab boat captains made up stories about getting stuck in ice and all that sea ice was Photoshopped in the videos.

there are 2 typs of ice new ice and old ice the new ice a couple yeaars old or newer is growing every winter infact is still floating around this year raising havock with shipping and old ice which seams to have been on theh decline. looking at the weather patterns this fall they closely resemble last years we can expect another cold one this year in western alaska and you guys might experiance another mild winter. the middle of the state is likely to be dumped on again. the coast gaurd told me last winter they suspect ocean curents to be to blame for the loss of old ice but that alot of new ice was formed last year and this cycle would likely go on for a while

The northwest passage was almost a reality back in the late 1800's

Most likely it was back in the 1300's when Greenland was well settled by Vikings who lived there all year and raised sheep and cattle on the long green grasses. Hence the name, "Greenland"

Funny how AGW is proven by citing thousand year "proxies" but 60 years of ice floe counts are good enough proof for that same crowd.
