And you think it's hot?

:shitHitFan:Not sure how hot it officially got but it's at least close to 109 now and guess what? My AC has started to make a squealling noise. AC place shut for the night so I will have to wait until morning and hope they can squeeze me in on a Friday

AC seems to work just making a squeak off & on so I thought it safer to not run it. I have 6 fans I can use if I have to.

Thx. for the help & info. Muley it's an old unit and I got a lot of mileage out of it. If need be I can afford to get it replaced. I just wish it hadn't started acting up right before the weekend.

Yep, I surely do think it's hot. Earlier today a Doberman was chasing a cat across my front yard ... and they were both
walking! :yum::yum::yum:

On a more costly note, I had to pay a tech overtime to fix our A/C unit Tuesday, so I feel for you.

right now it's running and putting out cool air it's just that every once in awhile it squeaks a bit. I had major repairs on it a year ago. It's a 20 plus year old Rheem gas pack. Gas heat electric refridgeration.

I bet if you went outside and looked at the main lines going into your home, it would be covered in a sheet of frozen ice.
Mine did that before the whole unit died.

Nope no ice looks OK from outside except for normal wear & tear (it's OLD) looks like maybe a bolt came loose. I still think it's related to the dust storm last night. We had a bunch of wind. Like Muley said it could be the belt. I have been researching online and from what I see I am hopeful it can be repaired instead of replaced.

I hope so Cat.
Stay cool.
Mine used to make a squealing sound and the motor inside would get hot to the touch when that evaporator coil would freeze.
Eventually it just died.

Hope it's something that is simple to repair. ;)

This is surely not the time to be without a/c.

It happened to us late last fall. It was all my fault. My wife was complaining about how dusty the house was and I put additional filters on all the outlet vents in the house. That caused enough backpressure/restriction in system that it would freeze up, overheat and quit. Strange, and lucky, that it only happened to one of the units. Anyhow, after the a/c came out and eventually found the problem, we removed all the additional filters that I had installed and it's worked perfectly ever since.

I bought my wife a whole box of new dusters and told her to live with it. :yum::yum::yum:

Just a few thoughts CA and i am far from an expert, but i do all my own maintenance. The occasional squeaking screams dry or worn bearings to me, if it is the older belt driven blower the squirell cage will most likely have a place to manually oil the end bearings. Some of the older electric fan motors also have the oilers on them.

Also as Frank mentioned, to many filters or a dirty filter can cause it to overwork itself as well, as will as dirty or clogged coils. You might try to remove the filter completly and see if it helps also see if you can see if the evaparator might be partially plugged. If anyone in the house smokes nicotine could be built up on the coil where you could spray a good cleaner like "mean green to remove some of the buildup.

Sure would suck to not have AC in these kind of temps, so i wish you the best of luck. :flowers:

We are up to 84 already and the humidity is terrible. Nasty haze hanging in the valley like steam. Did 2 more buckets of wood earlier and watered everything real good. Going to be a day of pool and a/c for me.

Going to be a tad warm over the next few days in our neck of the woods too.

Bob

I call refrigeration place 1st thing this morning and guy came out and said it was the blower motor. He said it might actually last a few more months (or even longer )before it quit but recomended replacing it. So I did. It cost 500 bucks but that's better than the cost of a whole new unit. Hopefully I can get a few more years out of it.

Big OUCH on that.:wow:We are 88 but the sun is too much even in the pool. Wife told me I was getting red so I got out and came inside for a while.

Details for Sunday, July 01
Partly cloudy with isolated thunderstorms possible. A few storms may be severe. High around 95F. Winds SW at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 30%.
Evening: Partly cloudy with a slight chance of thunderstorms. A few storms may be severe. Low near 70F. Winds ESE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 30%.

Hope some of that rain makes it this way. We are cooler today but going to heat back up as the next week goes along. Sure need some rain.

We are cooler but suddenly getting a lot of wind. Tore one of the damn bushes off the side of the building and flipped the pool solar cover out around the yard. Ain't gonna wrestle any of them till it calms down a bit. Strange part the sun has been beating down and only a few clouds all day.
