Rain all night in the valley, and that made about 2 - 3 foot of snow up top.
This side hill is always a PITA, about 25% up and 20 % side (on a good day)
high winds have drifts in places I haven't seen in about 10 years of having stuff on this mountain.
I think I would have been better off winching from the start, before sinking in, but hind sight is 20/20 I started crabbing across the hill but there was just too much snow for it to work right.

Oh well a few exta hours of winching and we made it to the mountain. Its always a learning experience for me :)
I will try and post more pics later today.

agreed. and I've decided... extra rope to reach that big strong tree.

would love to come hang out with you some day... and watch you learn...:brows:

A winch is nice but when you have 300ft to the closest tree it's useless,I took off on holiday's and the next night the boys were out grooming in the tucker and buried it in a chopping with no trees around ,by the time (13 hrs. of shoveling and ramping) they got it out I was sitting in 80+ weather :)

yeah there is a few places where trees could be an issue for us. I havent tried out the "pull pall" in snow yet, I guess I should :)
we have about 150 of the "blue steel" rope on the winch, and we carry anther 100ft of the blue steel extra line. We had to use both to use the pulley on this one.
and another 90 ft of steel cable on the other winch.
I also carry two 30 ft tow straps and a 15ft BIG tow rope, a chain, tree straps, pull pall.

we wont have enough for any situation, but we have tried to be ready :)

and this mountain is one of my least favorite... the "winter road" is getting over grown with brush and trees. :( we keep trimming but they keep growing.
this trip I broke the drive side wiper, it sheered off the pin inside after brush caught it. :(
that was on the way up, so we had to jump out and wipe the window.. that made it even more fun.

then on the way down a branch took out the beacon light :-/
I was not having a very good day.

Ok Matt, request time...

would u get out the pullpal and give it a shot and let us know how it does?

From what I read with 4x4's.. it is better than the others out there. The big question is.... how will it do in deep snow and with a 6-8k kitty?

I will.

One thing I have found out from search and rescue MRA training is we could pull a 1 ton truck sideways using a "snow Ballard" as an anchor. with a 3to 1 Z rig

It does take alot of time to set up but I was surprised how much weight they can support but I have never set one up for vehicle recovery.

The "snow bollard" is a new one for me....glad to see new things before you need them, which is hopefully never for this one. But great idea to have if needed!!

I also would be interested to know if the pullpal works. Matt, if you ever do get around to testing it,please post your impressions.

I took the wheeler back back this same mountain the next monday to do a quick job,
It had drifted back in some but it was still a good trail from building a road on the way down in the cat,
