Aluminum Grousers?

IMP

Member
I spotted these in a dumpster divers yard amongst all his other treasures and got them at a pretty reasonable price. Not sure what to do with them yet. Any one know if they would work on my 1404 IMP? Or would I be better off selling? what are they worth? They all look to be in pretty good shape. I could make them fit on my IMP but they seem a bit aggressive for the C4 but Im not sure. Can anyone enlighten me?

Bombardier...............most likely

Boggie can build you replacements for the broken or supply all new.......

I have seen that style on bombardiers. I have also seen aluminum on an imp. But not with ice grousers like that.

I think they are more for deep snow more than anything else. I need to get snowcat pat or boggie to comment. If these grousers are too aggressive for my WT 1404 Imp then I will get rid of them. If nothing else I bet I could come out ahead by just selling the aluminum. They really seem to be in good shape, I know I could make the grousers fit on my Imp. what Im concerned about is will I be tearing up my C4 transaxle with 3" deep X 34" long grousers. Has anyone ever seen an Imp with tracks like this?

Pixie nailed it to Pisten Bully and by the pics they do look like PB tracks. Good Job!!!!!!!!!!!! Pixie....................

I have heard of aluminum cleats as an option on some Thiokols but have never seen them. Clearance at the 3 inch height maybe a problem on your Imp. The actual weight of the tracks may end up less than your steel cleats but the aggressive 3 inch cleats may steal power from the engine. Just a guess........

If you were to remove all of the ice caulks to minimize turning resistance they might not strain the OC-4 in your Imp too much, but the body clearance (grousers) and leaf spring clearance (tire guides) could still be an issue.

That's a nice find and I wish they were for the PB200 as I could use them myself. They look like they came off a PB 100 or 130 though. I don't know what you use your Imp for but I had similar tracks on the Bombis I used to have and there never seemed to be an issue with straining the drive train and I used them year round but was careful in the summer on hard surfaces. The one thing I would recommend is cutting them all to the same height as the ones that have the ice cleats have worn more than the others and will cause a noticeable bumpy ride. Also by trimming them down you will increase the clearance between the body and track. I wouldn't hesitate to use them.

I have other pics of aluminum grouser imps but I have to dig them out. This one was used by the F.A.A. to access a radio site that has a paved road in the summer, hence the wear on the grousers.

I bet these aluminum grousers will work just fine for my Imp but it will take some fabrication to get the tire guides to fit right. The tracks I have now are in good shape they just dont do great in deep sugary snow on slopes. If someone else needs these grousers more than me I will sell cheap, otherwise I will hang on to them and maybe get around to build a set of mountain tracks in a year or two. Thanks for all the comments.

Something I really like about the modified 'big paws' under this one (of your 4T's)... paint scheme too... just has a very nice visual balance to it. Having the OC in it is interesting as well (although I'm curious if you've drag-raced your straight-up 4T10 dual-shaft w/drop-centers and this OC-12 based rig with big paws) and those extra doors... you just let poor Mainer know when you're tired of her and ready to put her up for adoption after you get a few 601's under the roof... ;)
I think a drag-off would make an awesome youtube !!!

maybe when we get some snow i will video a drag and post it on youtube...might as well get the hydro 4t4 in on the race as well....i am afraid it would not be a very close race....

and of course i will let you know first if it ever goes up on the auction block....but i will have to wait and see how i am feeling once i get that super low hour cherry 601 I am still searching for!

I know of a super low hour 601... the cherriest of all cherries! Well, original cherries that is...Weatherby's is the ultimate 'councourse better than new' cherry.
Let me noodle that... maybe I go buy that cherry and then we work it out. Maybe trade this puppy and the hydro for the 'fountain of youth' 601. I haven't done the full court press on this guy yet but maybe this is incentive... I know he won't let it go for cheap. I already have two that are within 20 original Hobb-hrs of this one so makes little difference to me if I can get a couple of unique machines like this and the hydro. I think the 601 would go for more than the cost of the two but who knows...that's a theory.
