8 states plan to BAN the sale of Gasoline Cars by 2032

Maryland, New Jersey, Rhode Island, New York, Massachusetts, California, Oregon & Washington will be outlawing the sale of gasoline powered passenger cars. I presume that includes SUVs and mini-vans. I would also assume it includes pick up trucks and vans used by both private individuals and also commercial operations like trades, delivery vans, etc. Sort of hard to sort some of this out. But clearly they are pushing ahead of the federal government.

I'm curious if someone moves into one of these states, starting in 2023, and if they have a new car registered in their former home state, will they be able to bring it with them into these 8 states? And how many new gas cars do you think will get sold the year before the ban goes into effect, because if people buy in advance of the ban, that could skew the new car sales and drive up prices for everyone as cars flood into those 8 states due to a government induced pre-ban demand.

8 states are planning to BAN the sale of gas-powered cars entirely - after Biden unveiled ambitious plans to phase them out by 2032

At least eight states are planning to ban the sale of new gas-powered cars in the next decade - and others are considering joining them.
Only zero-emission vehicles can be sold in participating states beginning from the 2035 model year, according to the Advanced Clean Cars II legislation.
The rule, which was first adopted by California, means that automakers and dealerships would be banned from selling new gas cars in these states from that point onwards.
Americans will not be forced to take their gas-powered cars off the road, however, and will still be able to buy used and secondhand gas vehicles.
These states have gone further than the latest federal legislation announced last week, where the Biden administration released new rules to gradually phase out gas cars by 2032.

The new federal legislation requires automakers to reduce the tailpipe emissions of new vehicles by around 50 percent from model year 2026 to 2032.
In order to achieve this, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is targeting 35 percent to 56 percent of vehicles needing to be EVs by 2032, and 13 percent to 36 percent needing to be plug-in hybrids by that date.
It was initially proposed that two thirds of all cars sold by 2030 would need to be EVs, but the brakes were put on that plan last week, giving a concession to carmakers and giving them more ways to comply. . . .

This whole thing is so wrong but it's going forward anyway. TOTALLY pisses me off.

That said, I'm binge buying newer vehicles to add to or replace my aging fleet. Some of the older vehicles are bulletproof but those that may need replaced in the next few years are being addressed now while we can still get gas vehicles.

I already spent $67,000 this year for new or newer vehicles. I'll probably spend another $70-80,000 this year to get GAS vehicles to get me through the next couple decades.

I have gas vehicles that I believe will take me at least 10 years down the road, most likely 15 years. By then either I won't be around to worry about such matters or new technology will have come up with a better solution like the hydrogen engine Toyota is so excited about.
