601 out and about

Fun times indeed. We take the bad with the good, and it makes the great days that much sweeter!

Do you ever go up toward Indy Pass? I know on our side a lot of folks snowmobile it, but I’ve never been up there in winter.

The weather is stupid crazy this year.
California is getting dumped on big time.

Here at the ranch we have had 27" of rain since September 1st

Total for this neck of the woods is about 40" all season.

The forecast calls for 2-4 inches more before Jan 1st
We have snow on the ground at present....Not much...just enough to be a mess..
More snow coming by late next week....

I live on the east side of it, we go skiing and snowshoeing up there. No cat though, they gate it off in the winter. There is a bypass for snowmobiles, way too narrow for the cat

You're in Cali? You need the moisture either way. He'll, everywhere west does these days. I do wildland fire in the summer. Seasons get longer and more destructive every year. This half of the country needs some drought relief

Not me....About 25 miles south of Portland near Newberg, Oregon.....

We had a dry summer....but nothing out of the realms of reality....
The odd part was the 116F we had for a few days.

It was 106 F the day I was born back in 1952.....hot and dry is not all that strange....
The 116F this past summer is the hottest I have ever seen...

Had some 107/108 back a few years

Started raining in late September

Sept..4.38"
Oct 6.09"
Nov 11.75"
Dec 7.81" (To date and counting)
------------------------------------------------------
Sub total 30.03"
We are still getting rain.....another several inches are forecast for the last few days of December.......
The news media is still howling drought.....
Average is about 40" for the year for this area....
My bet is we will be over 50" this year judging from past years....and if this deluge keeps up we may need an ARK....and a sump pump.........

The La Nina winter always soaks us really good.

That's good news, I guess. That heat reached way up into Canada, strange couple of days. The La Nina winters for us are usually drier and warmer. Not such good news for us in Colorado. We've been really dry for the last few years.

Yes...La Nina does mess up the southern reaches of the Rockies.

I have read a few recent articles on how low Lake Mead and Lake Powell are late..

That water all comes from Co, Wy, Nm, Ut.......Low snow fall....little water.....

Up here in Oregon it seems like the media is fixated on drought.....Spring of 2020 the local weather folks made the statement that our snow pack was in good shape..... With most areas at 90% or better and some over 100% of normal......

That statement was quickly lost to cries of Drought by the talking heads....

Our local rainfall numbers were good......but the numbers the media lists are waaaaaaaaaaay out of whack with the real numbers...

We have had a private station here....these numbers don't lie....

Yeah.....last June was a scorcher with the triple digit heat wave...July and August were dry with only a spritz....
Then comes Sept until now.....Magically the drought noise stops....Guess they don't want to look foolish taking drought when there is flooding going on.....

The entire weather thing swings back and forth.....Wet...too wet...dry...too dry....too much snow....not enough snow.
Ah well.....Ma nature will do it's thing.....unless somebody is fooling with it....????

We picked up another 3/8" of rain since midnight.....
I am real glad to be on top of the Mt....

Oddly enough, we have kinda the same thing here with the ski resorts mis-representing snow totals. But it trends the other way. I know a guy that makes his living traveling from resort to resort checking actual snow totals vs. What they report they're getting. Too bad they can't just be honest. I guess that's a rarity these days though

They always seem to get their measurements from the top bull wheel, beside the snow gun. "Don't spread out that whale hump yet, we need to get a measurement".

So we ended up with just over a foot of fresh snow on Christmas eve. I was able to take the cat for a spin after work, and I lost a wiper blade in the process. Would any of you know of j arm style wiper arms that will fit the windshield of my 601? The old screw one don't work all that well and they fall off pretty easily when in use.
