5 ply track belting?

Greetings all:
Does anyone know what the original track belt for a 1970's st4 was? What I have on mine is 5 ply. 3/8 inch total thickness. Top and bottom is 1/16th inch with 4 cord belts separated by really thin rubber. Looked for similar in catalogs for conveyor belting but didn't find anything. I figure that I'm going to go 3 ply conveyor, but am curious about the current stuff.
Thanks

Remember those guys out East had been using your machine for pulling a groomer. This maybe why the heavy belting and the grousers it has. I don't know the answer to the original equiptment question though. My St has 4 ply 0.25" belts...

Regards, Kirk

Found out this IS the original belting. The grousers are not, but the belt is.

It is more flexible than the 3 ply my friends imp has.

OH well

Your machine should not require 5 ply belting, we do not use 5 ply even on the
Big Groomers like the BR350 machines which are hydrostatic and almost 10 times the horsepower a good 3 ply like a 600 PIW or at the most a 4 ply 800
Belting strength has come a long ways in the last 10 years

We do use 5 ply 6ply and 7 ply on the big utility machine but they get upto 77,000 pounds

I agree that 5 ply seems excessive. I just thought it was interesting that the 5 ply was OEM at some point. I have been looking for conveyor belting that had the same top and bottom layer thickness. Since I wasn't having a lot of luck, I thought to see if the OEM style was still out there. No luck on that either. I did find some WHITE belting so if I wanted my ST to look like the Matchbox...

I figure I'm going to look at 330 lb 3 ply and go with that. But thought it was a different take on the usual "new belting" thread.

I have given a tiny bit of thought to this 3 vs 5 discussion.

do you suppose they went five as more of a durability and resistance to puncture purpose than a GVWR and pulling issue.

It seems to me the ST's where marketed as a *more terrain* machine (not all terain)and the heavier belting was for the wider exposure to varied terrain. sand, rocks, woods debris.
