3band snow trac side clearance?

My Snow track tracks re not OEM. The previous owner(s) used 1" square tubing for grousers. In operation if I try tight turns the grousers hit the side of the box at the rear , not much but enough to mar the metal, and make one heck of a noise. There is about 1" of clearance between the track/grousers and the box. Is this too small? Or do I have other issues? on straight runs, or very gentle turns they don't hit.

Tracks are adjusted fairly close to book at this time.
I'm going to replace them this spring/summer but don't want to duplicate a problem if the tracks are not correct.

mine rubbs off the paint to and most i've seen also have paint worn off. my grousers don't stick out to the edge of the rubber belt if yours do that could be some of teh problem. also you may have worn bushingd in teh swing arm assembly behind the rear wheel. again most snow trac's have tis problem after 20 to 50 years of use. once i get my newer snow trac here and up on line going through the suspension end to end will be my next priority.

hi look for wear in rear wheel hanger bushes. lose wheel bearings. the wait of all that box section will be over loading a lot of parts.just a suggestion plazma cut box down the center to lessen weight and drag. plus you get a spare set of grousers. pic of trying to remove a rear pivot pin.

Rear wheel pivot bushing. Originals are linnen fabric impregnated with phenoilic resins. When they are tired, you will notice the rear wheels slightly toed in, and the track running to the outside in the rear when it is running straight. That slop goes the other way when you turn. Replacing mine really made a noticable difference in how well the machine free wheels between gears, and how much quieter it is now in the cabin.
