Well, I have not been on here very much for a while. I thought I would try to post a vacation thread. Any and all Ideas welcome!!! Any and all FF get togethers would be great!!! We will be leaving from Worland, WY on the 17th. Destination the west coast, everything else is fly by the pants fun!!! I have a couple FF get togethers planned already. Two in ID. We will have two weeks so it should be a fairly relaxed trip!!! Any ideas??? A great place to stay on a sandy beach??? A gold mine not to miss?? A restaurant that is to die for? We will be camping trying to boondock as much as we can!!! Thanks for all the help in advance! Mike and Beth

We are loaded and ready to go!!!!!!!!!!!!! Will have laptop and internet with me expect some pics!!!!!

Night one!!!! South of Columbus MT. Nice game and fish campground!!!! NO CHARGE!!!!!!!!!! On the Stillwater River before it's confluence with the Yellowstone river.

Monday was a good day!! We had a long day and a pile of stuff to see!! We continued on HWY 20 through the North Cascades. Very beautiful country. Very curvy roads but worth the drive! We are on Whidbey island, West of Seattle. We are taking the ferry across Puget sound to Port Townsend on wed. Today is take it easy and touristy stuff.

Night six. We stayed at a Wa State park Dungeness. Very nice campground. Sites are getting hard to find and the prices are going up. This was located in the strait of Juan De Fuca. Had a great night listening to the waves crash into the rocky shore below our campsite.

The pics above were taken at fort Casey on Whidbury island. It was a WWII fort Built to protect Puget Sound. One of the three that are there. IT IS HUGE!!! would recommend this stop. Try to spend at least half a day.

Just saw this. Hey, you're in my neighborhood! Are you heading south from Whidbey? There are some good campgrounds here. Let me know if you're interested.

more pics... Night Seen we are at Pacific campground. Right on the beach laid back day just lounging around listening to the waves and walking the beach!!!

Very Cool!!

I live pretty near to where that gun was produced.

Night Seven Thanks for the comments guys!! We are in Cape Disappointment for a couple nights. Then we have decided to start heading east. We will follow the Columbia river for a ways then hit Hells Canyon rec area in ID. Pics of Cape Disappointment lighthouse, Astoria bridge which is 4 miles long across the mouth of the Columbia river, Ships must be piloted by an certified Columbia river caption from the Coast Guard. It was fun to watch them wait out in the mouth to have him pilot them in.

Thanks MB. I'm just now catching up with your travels. I was on vacation when you started and I'm still catching up. :D
Good pics. Did you find out the story behind the name of Cape Disappointment?

The name comes from an early explorer trying to find safe passage over all the sand bars at the mouth of the Columbia river. He did not find it. And all the ships that have run aground here. There are alot (in hundreds). There are old wooden and steel hulls all over the place.

After we left Cape Disappointment, we headed East into the Rockies. Spent the night in Hells Canyon Camp Ground on the Snake river near Lewiston MT. Made a Little trip SE of there and spent the night at a friends house. Had a great visit and he is doing very well. Then we headed North and went over Lolo Pass. Stayed in a very nice FS campground on the top of Lolo. We are currently at Lewis and Clark caverns state park. Just outside of Bozeman, MT. We are at our last couple nights. Trying to decide either to go through Jellystone or go around and avoid the tourists. Decisions decisions?????

I was very surprised to find the rolling hills and fields in SW Washington???? Alot more farming then I ever imagined. Lewis and Clark caerns are worth the stop if you are in the area. Lolo was great if the would get rid of the construction and just fix the damn road...... MT side was great Id was bad. Sorry to bundle the last few nights but was without service for a couple.
