1986 LMC 1200. Need basic info

Re: Hello

Hi Sylvia. Welcome to FF.
For better response I've moved your post to the snowcat forums. More snowcatters will see it there.
Enjoy and post often. :thumb:

Re: Hello

No problem. Give it a day or two and you'll be a pro.
Feel free to ask if you get stuck anywhere.

Call Peterson Equipment in Logan Utah with your serial number and they most likely will have a copy of the factory build sheet and an operators manual and a parts book available for your snow cat. It is always great to know as much as you can about your snow cat.

For this info you must post pics and tell us how you plan to use your 1200 LMC snow cat.......:thumb:

Peterson should have the original "Order" sheet or build sheet. They will fax you a copy for no charge. If they dont have a manual try "BOGGIE". He is a member here. PM him. He also stocks parts as well.

Mike

Thanks for the leads, I will follow up on them. We have a cabin in the Washington Cascades. For the past 30 years I have been able to access it with our snowmobiles. I am now at the point that standing in waist deep cement / snow to unstick the sled does not excite me. (Maybe I am getting smarter, (not likely)) I will try and post a picture, but I am new to this format, and not a whiz on the computer. I know I have a picture on the computer, but am not sure how to get it to here. Thanks again for your help

Good job Sylvia, the pic looks great. :thumb:
Beautiful up there....and all that snow. :D

Great photo. Congratulations and welcome! I believe I saw this puppy for sale in WA ... great purchase!

Nice trailer, too. Apparently the width of both doesn't exceed the max for your state? I might consider trailering my "cat" to where there's more snow. Don't want to excite the highway patrol.

Nice looking machine but I think you're pressing your luck towing with that trailer and truck combination.

The trailer and cat combo were just over 10K when I looked at her. It was just to heavy a combo for me since I need to stay under 10K for both trailer and cat combined.

Yea, I hunted down a Maxey tilt to go along with a 601 to keep the weight within my limits. BUT, after looking at everything, I may go after a dually with a double length goose to haul two 601's at once... but then in most instances I'm already getting up there past most dually capacities....so then I end up looking bigger...and it's a vicious cycle... very annoying.

We just got back from the cabin and doing some "practicing" and tinkering. I received an email from Petersons in UT., and they have a maintenance manual they say will work for me. I will get it on the way next week! As for the trailer, it was explained to me that the power company used it to haul the cat to wherever it had to go. It was sold as a package, so I had no choice. The seller estimated the package at 9-10,000 lbs. The truck is my godson's. It is a F250extra duty with a 7.2 (?) turbo diesel. The seller set up the trailer to be towed with this vehicle. It has a pintle hitch. The trailer has electric brakes that are apparently activated by the electrical connection to the tow vehicle. The trailer is 8' wide. The cat is 118" wide. In WA. all you need is $10 permit, flags, and wide load signs to haul the unit. (102" is max without a permit) On the way up we stopped by a closed scale and total weight was 11,700#. On the way back the trailer came in at 3700#. We do not plan to tow this unit as a RV. It will stay at the cabin unless there is maintenance to be done at home. At most it will be towed 2x per year. On the climb up the pass he kept it at 2800 RPM and said he had plenty of power to go if he needed it. The truck dropped 3" when the trailer was attached. I followed, and there was no whipping of the trailer or out of control moves on the trip. Other than knowing he was pulling something big, he said it went very well. Now you know what I do. Thanks again for all your help.
